Really? I was under the impression that they had some long standing grudge, and the issue people had with it is that they're both shot at this point. (well, Degale is shot and Eubank just turned out to be not good)Comment

So solid world class is not a failure.I was referring to the level above world, if he was aiming to be elite then I take it assumed he must have got to solid world class.
is he ***, several have eclipsed him already and its only been 8 years, nor did he top some who came before him. Sure hes backdoor hall of fame though by getting his unrecognised defences "retro-recognised".
Re Calzaghe, I said it's almost universally acknowledged. It's not just my opinion, that's a fact. I could give you loads of examples where he's been voted as the best ever at 168 by respected magazines, journalists, boxers etc. This website voted him as an ATG. I'll give you links if you want when I have time.Comment

Like I said, many journalists, ex pro's, websites etc have stated he's the best at 168. Whether you agree with the term 'almost universally recognized' doesn't really matter.
There will always be people who disagree, but the overall consensus is that he's an ATG.
By Cliff Rold - It shouldn’t matter, but it did. Logic said Joe Calzaghe, while only three years younger, had too much in the tank to be troubled much by a man who still looks like Roy Jones Jr. (52-5, 38 KO) but doesn’t fight much like him anymore. Boxing though is a sport where passions and memories run deep and seeing is believing. Beating big names is often as important as beating better challenges without them. The nature of Calzaghe’s win over Jones, sans logic, is forcing tons of conversation about his place in history which really made just as much sense a week ago.

its not, way more agree that jones would have handily outpointed him if not stopped.Like I said, many journalists, ex pro's, websites etc have stated he's the best at 168. Whether you agree with the term 'almost universally recognized' doesn't really matter.

No it isn’t. I’ve not seen a majority of journalists, websites etc that say that.
Some, OK, but not a majority.
Emanuel Steward said during the HBO commentary for the Calzaghe Jones fight that Calzaghe would have been a hard fight for Jones at any stage of his career.Comment

so therefore joe is not the best SMW, you've agreed already.
the list continues. joe has been left behind.Comment

I haven’t agreed to ****ing anything. I said Steward said Calzaghe could possibly beat prime Jones.
I never said what I think would happen. As I stated to begin with, I’m not even talking about my personal opinion.
The fact is numerous journalists, websites and pros have stated it is THEIR opinion he is the best ever at 168, and an ATG.
Me personally, I tend to give more credence to the hall of fame panel than dreamfighter on boxingscene.Last edited by apollocreed; 02-05-2019, 11:54 AM.Comment

steward didnt say anything of the sort, the words u chose said it would be a hard fight. u need a new quote to substantiate that. TUTTUT - claiming you got the facts and then using a lie instead. You ruined your own credibility.
I think what you do mean is joe is the most accomplished SMW. He definitely has an argument for that, though one would consider Sven Ottke to be ahead seeing as he made more recognised title defences. Sven being the forum joke is besides the point.
Thats your sole argument of credence. Hardly the greatest in terms of ability, ward outdid his greatest career end feat in his first SMW title fight.
Likewise several SMWs would be considered better H2H. Sadly we dont know h2h because joe kept well clear of them nearly all his career.Comment
