What I saw last night was - dare I say - shades of Calzaghe. The barrage of tippy-tappy shots which accumulate to cut an opponant to ribbons, the constant in-out and lateral movement, and decent chin the few times anything big landed. There's even some physical similarities - though Garcia's a bit smaller.
Garcia's resume was way better tan Cheeseman's. He had beaten Isaac Real former European Champion and then 2 A-Level european boxers such as Moncelli and Beaussire. Another thing is that you guys think boxing does not exist in Europe outside your island. Beaussire would eat your cheese easily.

In all seriousness Ted Vs Joe Pigford could work out well next time out.

Easy on the attitude there sunshine, don't tar all of us Brits with the same brush. Many of us know a fair bit about the world outside our island - it's just that the 154lbs scene is not a strong point of mine, being that it's only recently starting to gather pace in the UK compared to some of the other weight levels. Also, other than a few notable names Spain has not exactly been a hotbed of Boxing over the years.
Incidentally, I was really impressed with Garcia the other night - hence the high praise I gave at the time. Not sure he has enough power to hurt the world champs, but he certainly has the skill and the engine to cause them trouble.

Can't remember which Sky pundit said it, but they had it spot on. If you look at Cheeseman's record, he hasn't even fought a solid British level fighter. He's fought a 40 year old Carson Jones and a load of journeymen.

At least when Ritson stepped up and lost, he had cleaned out domestic level and it was the next logical step.
This is the biggest problem with a lot of our boxers. I dont want to criticise them too much but sometimes i wish they would take the necessary steps to improve fight by fight and test themselves from domestic, to commonwealth to euro level and then world level.

One thing that i find strange is that commonwealth often seems to be seen as beneath the British title these days when it comes to British boxing.

A lot of fighters are fighting for the Commonwealth title before they fight for a British title. Probably because you get fighters from Australia and other places holding the title but are probably like Southern Area title level fighters. Commonwealth has been a much easier title to pick up in recent years than it used to be.

            • Well Skeete's and Cheeseman's attitude before their fights against Lejarraga and García has been really annoying, completely overlooking them and showing no respect whatsoever. There is plenty of talent here, just no tv money and a lot of prejudices against boxing in mass media. Still we have four European Champions: Medina, Lejarraga, García and Kiko Martinez
