SHould matchroom USA save the WBSS?

Rumours going round that Eddie is in talks to take over the WBSS following the financial issues.

I don’t know how true this is, but thoughts on whether that’s a good idea or not?

My thoughts are that it would be a huge opportunity to take on, even if potentially a loss leader? DAZN are already committed but also opens opportunity for two more divisions?

    Imagine these divisions:

Canelo, Jacobs, Andrade, could they get golovkin, BJS on board? Only need a couple more then.

Joshua, Whyte, Miller, Usyk. 1/2 way there with decent names again? Could they convince others to join for a huge tournament; maybe the biggest boxing tournament ever?

So do you want DAZN to take it over or matchroom? Because you listed a lot of GBP fighters too.

Id like all the promoters to have an equal share if possible. (Dream on, I know) That way you get the best fighting the best. WBSS for just matchroom would just be garbage. Ditto GBP, Top Rank, etc. No stable has a division locked up. Sure matchroom is closest at MW and SMW but they don’t have BJS, GGG, or Canelo. And at SMW they don’t have Zurdo or David Benavidez

DAZN would be preferable , only Canelo I listed was GB but don’t disagree that needs to ensure as a minimum both included and preferably cross-network works.

That really was one of the benefits of the current WBSS, however if it’s going to fold otherwise; I think preference has to be that someone else takes it on - at least to get the ones already announced through because there is a few decent matchups that could happen.

As a boxing fan I hope somebody saves it. But if you're asking if Hearn would make money from doing so, probably not. The win bonus Usyk+Smith got was big, if it's the same for the winners this year I don't see them making a profit. WBSS has produced some great matchups so I'm thankful for it but the business side of how it was run always seemed questionable.

DAZN have money to spend and not that many interesting events lined up, so it is possible. But they/Hearn haven't bid high enough for some of the names that have gone to ESPN+PBC so my guess is they don't do it here.

WBSS announced yesterday that they will be posting the fights and dates of the second round, so hopefully it doesn't need saving.

and sorry about that, when I listed off guys from other promotions, I intended to go back and delete the "you listed a lot of GBP guys" but I never did.

DAZN cut Hearns money to bring in Golden Boy, he failed to deliver.

You think DAZN is gonna give Eddie WBSS.

            Hahahahahah

They can add that on, and they probably will, but I’m not sure how it lands them US boxing viewers. Most of those fighters aren’t American. And I thought DAZN was using boxing to break into the US market.

That’s why they went and got Canelo and then did whatever it took to get him a big fight. WBSS would be a good addition to their boxing content but doesn’t really move them much closer to their primary goal. It’s an uphill climb versus FOX, ESPN and Showtime.

It would have to be a division that’s dominated by Americans or Mexicans (or preferably both)

canelo will never enter into a tournament structure unless it's a device they use to allow him to fight cans. he's one of the biggest earners in boxing, surely the biggest earner in the US, he's not going to tie himself to anything and he'll be taking the fights for the biggest money, or the rocky fieldings to keep busy.
