I'm sorry if you can't read between the lines and see what's going on between Warren and Finkel, who both have a dislike to Hearn.
They came up with an alternative path for both fighters to get a bigger name and slice of the pie when they finally do fight Joshua.
That's one thing i respect about Wilder, he doesn't seem to care about this risk/reward crap like most of the top guys. Fighting Ortiz was a brave thing to do when he didn't have to, and he almost got ko'd.
    Check the thread title.

You just aknowleged that what the OP says there is correct.

Wilder and Finkel did not really want to fight AJ next, and they are working their butts off to make people think that they did want to fight him next, but AJ ducked it.

    Re Ortiz:

An undefeated world champion with nearly 40 fights, the self proclaimed "baddest man on the planet" agreed to fight an aging challenger, on medication for high blood pressure, who has never beaten a single top 10 opponent, and you think he deserves special kudos and respect for that?

As you mention risk/reward, consider this: Wilder had just found out that Ortiz had medical issues, and Ortiz agreed to fight him for $500k, if they gave him another chance.

Wilder's "alternative plan" to avoid unifying with AJ till he could get more money for it is also based purely on risk/reward.

If Dillion isn't just playing hard ball with AJ, then he is living in a dream world too.

He's being offered a voluntary shot at 3 world title belts, the chance to avenge his only defeat, and progress to a 4 belt HW unification fight with Fury or Wilder.

Yes, Whyte is a PPV "star" in his own right, but the people who pay to watch his fights are the same fans who would pay to watch AJ fight somebody else, who isn't Dillian Whyte.

It's relative to the amount of money the event he participates in is expected to generate Tom. You know this.

See my answer to Tom Cruise. No doubt AJ is the draw and has other options. How much longer can he keep taking on opponents other than what fans want and expect of him as HWT champion?

Now that's funny, because it's exactly the same question that was being asked when "fans" were convinced he intended to fight Dillian Whyte next!

£4million - $5.2million - is a damned good offer for a voluntary title defence, against a challenger you already have a KO win over.

It's about twice as much as I expected Whyte to be offered, and I thought he would have bitten AJ's hand off for £2million!

That's irrelevant when the event would be expected to generate around the same amount of money if he didn't participate in it.

AJ's only fight as a world title challenger, against Martin, generated a ton of money. AJ was paid peanuts for it, compared to Martin's share.

I don't disagree with you or anyone in theory that a fighter can take less for an opportunity at the top. However, I notice a pattern with Hearn when it comes to making fights for AJ. AJ/Hearn can always make money but how long will his credibility last outside of England if he keeps this up and always ends up with opponenet fans think is the least credible threat to beat him?

I'm not even sure what point you are making now. Are you saying AJ will lose credibility outside of the UK if he doesn't fight Whyte next?

                  If so why?

I thought he was supposed to be going to lose credibility if he did fight him.

Look at AJ's last 4 fights. Two of them were world title unifications against opponents who were thought to have a real chance of beating him, Wlad and Parker.

The other 2 were mandatory defences.

He can't fight Wilder or Fury next because they are fighting each other. So what the heck is he supposed to do?

But relative to the amount that Dillian Whyte himself brings to the event its a very good deal.

Whyte may have got paid more for Chisora. But with a Chisora fight Whyte was in a good negotiating posiition. They needed Whyte involved to make the event.

In this case Whyte is at most 3rd on the wishlist of fans for Joshua's next fight. Joshua can earn just as much fighting someone else, DAZN would pay him a hell of a lot to fight Miller in the US, for example, because of what it would do for their brand.

Respectfully, how can anyone think Whyte would be ok earning less for a bigger fight? It seems the offer is designed to be rejected so the easier fight with Miller can be made and thus preserving the whyte fight for later as an alternative to Wilder or Fury, the 2 fights fans want to see the most.

AJ can do whatever he wants but how much longer are even British fans going to accept this?
