    Are you serious? Paul Williams was undefeated at the time, so yeah he was quite imposing. To mentioned what happen against Quintana (which was after the fact) it doesn't change history. your reaching...so he lost a decision to Quintana, just like Floyd did with Maidana, Williams like Floyd avenged the lost in a rematch...

    Sugar Ray Lenrd:
    What does that have to do with Floyd retiring when the Welterwgt div was heated up? He still quit before Williams lost.

    Whut da hell??? All those fights that Margarito lost were after Floyd retired, and styles make fights so that's irrelevant! The fact is Floyd quit! he didn't want none of this during this time....
    And no Floyd wasn't afraid but he just wasn't willing to make those fights and they were for good money at the time. so he quit! and all the other guys fought and practically killed each other...

    Sugar Ray Lenrd:
    Sorry bro, in boxing it don't go that way, in order to beat someone you have to fight them , that on paper crap doesn't work here. Again the bottom line is he quit boxing when you had all these dogs wanting to fight. forget about the money wasn't right, the promoters don't work together & Oh i'll never fight under so & so promos...

    all that you mentioned was after the fact ...
    You are terrible at organization...please learn to quote like someone above age of 12

    Floyd never lost and definitively not to Maidana. The first fight was 8-4 or 7-5 if being generous to MM. JLC1 depends on what you like...a 7-5 either way or 6-6 is fine

    You suggest prime, undefeated PWill losing to Quintana was a "lefty" issue. No. PWill lost to Quintana b/c PWill just wasnt that good. PWills best wins are a SD over Sergio and Margarito (another bum) and career contender Cintron. And PWill lost to Lara, Sergio, and Quintana. None of them boxed as well as Floyd and although they are all lefty they are all also boxers...they hit and dont get hit...and Floyd did thay better than those three on any night.

    No single fighter can fight prime opponents every time out. They need to fight each other to eliminate competitors from the biggest paydays. That's not Floyd's fault

    People that big up Margarito are always exposed as poor boxing fans. So Margarito was this rare monster who went from PRIME CROWNING win over Cotti to...in his very next fight...getting BLASTED OUT by shot Mosley.

    As you said styles make fights and even in the rematch it was clear Margs would pose problems for Cotto.

    No version of Margarito wins more than 2 rounds on Floyd, ever.

    • --- Marg never got the chance to win a single rd because TUE 50-0 ducked his biggest payday just like he ducked the lucrative Oscar rematch.

      Just the facts ma'am!!!

        Son,
        i'm sorry about the lack of "organization", I'm at work & I might not have a prestigious job like you. But at the end of the day your smart so figure it out yourself.
        Maidana should've gotten that decision, so you think Maidana only won 4 rounds?! You must be joking....only 4 rounds???!!! Just from rounds 1-6 Maidana won more than 4 rounds.

        Sorry Bro, but you got the wrong person. I've never suggested undefeated PWill losing to Quintana was a "lefty" issue. You need to redirect that...wasn't me.

        And you wrote " Paul Williams just wasn't that good" Oh really, well look over here;
        Paul Williams defeated;
        Winky Wright, Sergio Martinez, Erislany Lara, Verno Phillips, Kermit Cintron, Antonio Margarito. Shame on you to say he wasn't good. Those guys rigth there are much better than
        Floyd's list;
        Guerrero, Victor Ortiz, Hatton, Baldomir, Old Oscar, Maidana (wasn't all that)

        and you said
        "No single fighter can fight prime opponents every time out. They need to fight each other to eliminate competitors from the biggest paydays"

        Well Sugar Ray (me) did;
        Benitez Nov'79
        Duran Jun'80
        Duran Nov'80
        Hearns Sept'81

        The bottom line is that the Welterwgt Division was boiling hot with 5 worthy opponents, challengers & other champions and Floyd left the game...he quit!

          The truth is even the most die hard "Pretty Boy" fans never thought he'd make the money he ended up making. Anyone who says otherwise prior to the "Money May" era are lying because Floyd didn't have a track record of sell outs, huge ratings, etc. Let's also not forget Floyd was an HBO "Sweetheart" at one point too. Bob also helped Floyd out, particularly the infamous "Top Rank Gym" incident. Ultimately Floyd made the best decision for himself and made a boat load but its easy now to say that when back then both Cotto and Margarito were the top 2 guys fans wanted to see him in the ring with. Luckily we still got the Cotto fight though past both of their peaks.
          Rl,
          you speak with knowledge.... I could tell you was around then. Excellent post!

                    • Why bring up PWill?

                      2007: Floyd beats De La Hoya

                      2 Months later: PWill beats Margarito (That's when he first becomes noteworthy)

                      Floyd's next fight: Ricky Hatton

                      2 months later: PWill's next fight? Loss to Carlos Quintana
