  • Arum said while Mayweather would have taken the $8 million to fight Margarito, he asked for a $10 million guarantee to fight opponents such as Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton, when Arum was only willing to guarantee $7 million.

Arum said Mayweather also asked for $20 million to fight De La Hoya, a fight Arum said he wasn't interested in participating in.

"That's not in the cards," Arum said. "He wants $20 million for the De La Hoya fight? It's not there. Sometimes, my man, you gotta know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. We'll talk about things down the road."

Arum agreed that the split with Mayweather was not on bad terms like their brief breakup last year. In fact, Arum said, "We intend to be back together. Everything with this was honorable and good. I had offered him numbers [for a multi-fight contract extension] that were livable. His expectations are in the stratosphere. He was entitled to buy me out, and he did. We decided this was the best way to handle it. He is a free agent. We have agreed to work with each other [in the future]."

once floyd went and used golden boy to promote his fights, instead of TR like bob expected, bob went nuts on floyd and perpetuated the myth floyd was scared of margarito and whoever else bob wanted to bring up....bob was irate floyd became a star without him

and heres arum confirming that floyd agreed to fight margarito provided arum gave him future guarantees against cotto and hatton......

arum understimated floyds worth and floyd walked...blame bob
      Hindsight is 20/20

The truth is even the most die hard "Pretty Boy" fans never thought he'd make the money he ended up making. Anyone who says otherwise prior to the "Money May" era are lying because Floyd didn't have a track record of sell outs, huge ratings, etc. Let's also not forget Floyd was an HBO "Sweetheart" at one point too. Bob also helped Floyd out, particularly the infamous "Top Rank Gym" incident. Ultimately Floyd made the best decision for himself and made a boat load but its easy now to say that when back then both Cotto and Margarito were the top 2 guys fans wanted to see him in the ring with. Luckily we still got the Cotto fight though past both of their peaks.

the division was heating up but theres no way he was going to fight them all within the 1.5 or so year layoff...so he let some of themselves sort themselves out...plain and simple.....
        Curt,
I'm not saying that, this isn't about that. It's about him leaving & quiting the game when the division was hot. And know i'm not saying that Spence has to fight all those guys within 2 years. And no, it's not "plain & simple", he quit the game. Curt, come you a boxing ficionado, admit that you would've love to see Floyd fight Margarito, or how about 2 undefeated fighters in Floyd vs Cotto.

So it's like if Thurman was to retired from boxing right now for no reason, while we have Spence, Crawford, Porter & Garcia. And then he comes back after all these guys practically slaughtered each other....you dig?

the only people that believed floyd would make that money are the ones that count...floyd and haymon...haymon convinced floyd if they went their own way and promoted him as the villain, as opposed to the clean cut all american kid, than they could make more money.......its easy to say because they bought out their TR contract and did what they wanted and achieved what they wanted

when lookin back at it bob was willing to guarantee him 7 mil for future fights against hatton and cotto....and floyd wanted 10 each...so bascially bob lost floyd over 6 mil....and the unwillingness to even TRY the oscar fight...which is a fight that helped take floyd to new heights

make no mistake...haymon believed...and floyd believed haymon...thats why the buyout happened

that scenario with thruman may actually be close to reality as hes been out with an injury and just getting back.....floyd himself had hand problem and overall fatigue......maybe not exactly the same....but the layoff and inactivity isnt far off......ward missed almost the same amount of time and still had many top fights and will be a HOF....he missed out just because of a squabble with his promoter...but still put together a HOF career

and yeah of course i would have loved to see floyd fight margs and an unbeaten cotto...dont blame floyd...blame bob...its all painted for you in the link....bob lost floyd over 6 million in future guarantees and a reluctance to even try to make an oscar fight......bob didnt see the vision al haymon had for floyd.....and he lost out...and in losing out we lost those fights...or at least cotto for the time being

He took a break when the division reached to a boiling point. And stop mentioning that he had hands injury...every fighter has injuries , you'll be surprised if you knew it's part of the game , no one goes in 100% all the time.
