Willie Pep was one of the dirtiest fighters in the game. He tried so hard to get himself disqualified in that rubber match against Sandy Saddler because he was afraid of getting KO again so eventually he just quit.
Who are the dirtest boxers in history.

Previous generations like the turn of the century had more dirty fighters for sure. Battling Nelson being a prime example. It was far more common in those era's.
Of recent years I'd definitely agree with Ward and as much as I love him Holyfield too. Hopkins was a dirty fighter too and a flopper.
I always thought Ricky Hatton was very dirty. Jeff Fenech was rough but Hatton was dirty IMO.
Wilfredo Gomez, Orlando Salido, Antonio Margarito, Joel Casamayor were also dirty fighters.
Not sure I'd classify Ruiz and Wlad as "dirty" but they held so damn much and Wlad did the leaning on the opponent so much that they are in the dirty discussion somewhat.Last edited by chrisJS; 01-04-2019, 10:44 AM.Comment

Fitzy Civic and Harry Greb were both supposed to be very dirty fighters. There is no film of Greb.Comment

Greb was reported to be a clean fighter for most of his career. It was only later after the Kid Norfolk fight when he was thumbed by him and lost vision in his eye and as he was slowing down that he adopted more of a dirty strategy himself. Prior to that he was seen as an in and out fast fighter who'd win fights with his superb footwork, speed and awkwardness.Comment
