How far back does your interest in boxing history go?

With HW I study the history back to John L. Sullivan because that's my fav division. WIth WW and MW I probably could only go back to the SRR era..

Started watching during the Tommy Hearns/Pinklon Thomas era. My mother went to school with Thomas in Pontiac, MI. Hearns was the biggest star in Detroit at the time.

I like reading about boxing back when the mafia controlled it but I don't watch a lot of old fights. I rarely watch any fight twice and I never rescore a fight.

I feel like if someone acknowledges how good the fighters from the 20-50s were they know about boxing. But unfortunately some ppl think mayweather is the greatest of all time. Which is funny.

I think they are the worst fan base in the sport. The typical Mayweather fan hates the sport, has no respect for the history and barely knows any of it. They are the "boxing started when Floyd started" brigade. They go on about "resume resume resume", yet there's only two great fighters he fought - Pacquaio who was washed up and Marquez who was far too small. Their fans think Pacquaio ****** so that leaves only Marquez and I'm a huge Marquez fan and realize Pacquaio's greater so zero great fighters defeated for Floyd yet they'll just dismiss a fighter they've never seen or even heard of because it's out of their scope of interest and they only watch boxing for Floyd and now Canelo because they are desperate to elevate him.

If folks go back far enough they'll realize at one point boxing champions were among the top three most popular people in this country. Hell in many cases people kept a picture at their business of whoever was the heavyweight champion at the time. Boxing has had a fascinating roller coaster ride of sagas, scandals, politics, and fanfare. Hell the King of England was a massive fan at one point. There also a bevy of SRR stories any real fan would enjoy. A lot of unsung heroes too from the late 1800'S and into the early 1920's.

You’ve never even seen Casamayor fight and you’ve seen one Corrales fight. You jut boxrec those guys and tries to pose as a real boxing fan. You watch Mayweather and Pacquaio because of Floyd and Canelo because of Floyd.
