1 of the comments on my main story on @boxingscene today is this: Vada avoiding, top level competition avoiding contender at best is now being called great in this article? 100 bucks says good old haymon sponsored this article. Um, no, he wasn't called great. Try RIF 🙄

I'm am sick to death of this division. It's like watching a B-grade soap opera that leaves you on a frustrating, manipulative cliffhanger every episode.
One of the most talent-stacked, yet underachieving divisions. Even with the shock exit of BJS, who will surely be back after his standardized slap on the wrist didn't diminish the many possible mouth-watering possible matchups available.
We could have Andrade v Charlo. Charlo v Jacobs. Jacobs v Canelo. Canelo v Derevyanchenko.
Then take all those names and shuffle them around so everyone has a chance with everyone else. WTF!
As fans, in 2017 we were promised that this year was going to be the year that delivered. And we did get some good fights.
But the MW division got a big fat raspberry with the exception of Canelo v GGG (of which the officiating at least partially ruined ).
We got:
Golovkin v Martirosyan.
Jacobs v Salecki.
Jacobs v Derevyanchenko.
Charlo v Centeno Jr.
Andrade v Kautondokwa.
Martin Murray v Roberto Garcia.
BJS v Lemieux.
Murata v Brant.
Spike O'Sullivan v Lemieux.
The division has roughly been the same for 2-3 years now, ever since Cotto v Alvarez. A big part of the problem is the promotional alliances and the division is not deep across the board with up and coming contenders. It has more of the David Lemieux's, Monroe Jr's, Martin Murray's etc.
But that excuse only goes so far. If a fighter demands his promoter make a fight, then a Charlo, Andrade and a Jacobs have a certain amount of leverage because they are recognised names with value whom other promoters would be willing to pay to have them in their stable.
3 Years. If we don't see (ranked from least tested) Charlo, Andrade, Jacobs, and Canelo in meaningful fights at 160 then chances are we have an MW Adonis Stevenson in Charlo.
Everyone demanding Canelo for a pay-day at once just doesn't work. The best way to get Canelo in the ring at MW is to threaten to take his belts by increasing your own profile with meaningful fights - showing you're worthy in the ring, not on social media.
IMO the best scenario is for Jacobs and Andrade to unify - then call out Alvarez and flip the script on him by listing all the dubious fights he's had and pressing his buttons by calling him a cherry picking, protected hype job.
Who wouldn't tune in to Booboo v Miracle man for the WBO/IBF straps?Comment

Yep. And us boxing fans have known him at least that long. Some real boxing enthusiasts longer. But the casual fans, the ones that tune in for name fighters, are only learning about Charlo as he has moved into the 160 division and his name gets mentioned during the Trip G and Canelo fights as a legit threat to them. As his profile raises he will become more bankable as the ratings for his fights rise. And he is an exciting, crowd pleasing boxer who is a HUGE trash talker, so they will. I bet in 2 years he will be among the names everyone else wants because he brings eyeballs and dollar bills.Last edited by landotter; 12-22-2018, 09:41 AM.Comment

He needs to fight Hurd, Jacobs, Andrade Lemieux or Mungia at worst. The Bum Collector, should be his name.Comment

ur last statement is hilarious....how long has Charlo been a mw....a year?? And he is all of sudden avoided ?? Get real.....Charlo has zero fanbase and is with pbc...those r the reasons the big dogs dont bother fightn him yet.Korobov isn't better than Heiland or Centeno. Not in 2018. Heiland was Jermall's first fight at 160 and Centeno was to become the WBC mandatory. Both are journeymen/gatekeepers. Lower top 10/high top 15 guys at mw. Not some pub fighter like Hurd just fought or a cripple like Bummed recently fought. Korobov is good for 3 or 4 rounds. And that's it. After that he is completely gassed.
g fought guys on the level of Heiland, Centeno, and Willie Monroe until he was 34 and was ranked a top p4p for doing it. g vacated so he could fight a retired junior middleweight, when he knew he had a fight with Canelo on the horizon. The WBC made Charlo Canelo's mandatory. They offered g a chance to take that position, but g decided he would refuse to fight Jermall. Canelo moved up a division to fight a joke. Jermall Charlo is the boogeyman of the middleweight division. He is the most avoided fighter today, bar none.Comment
