He would have gotten teased a lot growing up by his siblings and other people for being a ginger gringo, and so he tries to be as mexican as possible to cover up the ch1nk in his armour.

Learning English to him is a psychological thing. If he learns it, then he really was just a gringo this whole time...at least in his eyes.

Edit: wow, can't say 'ch1nk' without it being censored? Whoever came up with this is a phaggot, offence intended Mr phaggot.

I've noticed he's speaking more English since the DAZN deal, especially with those Ak & Barak guys. Mostly just a shore line here and there.

If he can build on that and answer the occasional question entirely in English, it'd go a long way. Native speakers of any language are usually very appreciative of others learning their language.

It actually helps his marketability in some ways, that he is a Irish looking Mexican who? Is speaking his native language with pride, and is not learning English. I don't think he needs to learn English to be fair, but he obviously knows abit! Just wants to speak Mexican.

I am sure he has picked up on some English, it is natural when you are constantly around English speaking people.

Canelo already knows English. If you noticed, he doesn't need translators anymore. He understands he's just not confident in replying in English.

              Exactly this .
Canelo's English isn't as good as he'd like . But he has been speaking it more in interviews I've seen .

                He speaks English.

The real question is why doesn't Ryan Garcia speak Spanish & how did he know what Chepo was saying to him in the corner. I didn't see a translator.

He knows some English iirc and seems to understand it pretty well at this point. I dont even think he uses a translator when they speak to him.

Spanish speakers havent had too hard of a time making it in the US as there’s such a large spanish speaking population from many different countries, not just Mexico.

Like Gilberto Ramirez was a good example. Tried english and just could express himself properly and went to spanish and it was hilarious

Especially because most of his opponents are English speaking boxers, which means their countries would like to showcase Canelo.
Didn't Cotto grow up in Rhode Island?
