Cotto who was just in for the money was past his prime by far. No middleweight wanted to fight him. Golovkin stated goal well before he became a prominent boxer was to unify all the belts. Strum, Jacobs and Saunders tried to avoid fighting him. Jacobs would beat Trout, Lara and Cotto. Cotto is too small. Trout and Lara would be good fights. there's nothing wrong with it at all. He's entitled to it, he's had two very hard fights back to back.

Just don't act like this is some massive feat where he's in this David vs Goliath battle against the heavyweight champ of the world. He's fighting a domestic C fighter for the WBA secondary belt. People just need to admit it's a tune up and move on.

He normally fights Cinco De Mayo and September 16th (Mexico's Independence day). This time he decided he wanted a stay busy fight in December. Something to keep him busy.

Naturally, having fought GGG back to back he wanted something easier, but not too much easier while he waits for his real fight dates.

So what's the big deal?

The other option was his usual 2 fights a year so Im happy to have this bonus fight from a fighter im a fan of. He could have never scheduled this fight and no one would have started to biiitch or think anything of him only fighting twice a year.

I always hated that Oscar, Floyd and Canelo started this 2 fights a year trend. When Canelo announced he would add in a bonus fight it was a pleasant surprise...until i saw all the ****** hate.

I guess he would have been better off skipping this tune up in December and waiting until May. Then again, his haters would find other ways to hate.
