Actually, he said he'd fight Ortiz in late December in the UK after Ortiz asked him to fight him on the Wilder undercard as a co-feature. Ortiz accepted. Hearn nor Whyte mentioned Ortiz name again.

This all after Whyte turned down an eliminator fight with Ortiz for the mando position.

I was responding to a previous post from an AJ fan who very typically disregards Ortiz as a serious contender. AJ fans are more interested in AJ matching up with domestic fighters who he's already proven himself against. Objective fans understand how dangerous Ortiz is, even in his forties. I would love to see Ortiz-v-Whyte; winner gets AJ. That seems fair.

For outboxing and going life and death with the WBC champion; a guy who was shamelessly ducked by the supposed real world champion. Period.

Sure he could fight Ortiz but he would beat him the same as the other two. Right now I think the only other heavyweight that can beat Joshua is Fury.

It may well shake out that way, but let's see it. I agree with you that Fury outboxes AJ, but I think AJ-v-Ortiz is a very competitive, potentially very exciting fight.

AJ wasn't into false hype without a contract signed. He wasn't going to let Wilder into the ring to get everyone up for a fight only for Wilder to **** him over on the money by asking for half. AJ isn't that idiots promoter. He isn't going to let that scrub make a name for himself of his own back. Wilder needs to do that himself.

Besides, the reason Wilder wasn't there for Parker is because he **** himself when he knew Whyte was going to be there. He was scared Whyte might actually slap him. Haha.

Ortiz in December was if Chisora didn't sign, which he did. Ortiz has not had the oppurtunity to duck Whyte though so that is nonsense from the other guy.

Whyte made the right decision in fighting Parker over Ortiz as it was just as good name at the time (maybe not so anymore but that's because Whyte beat him).

Also the 2nd mandatory position was clearly not a credible incentive as Brazeale could be pushed back a whole year if Wilder fights Fury and a unfication bout with AJ. So Whyte could end up waiting 3 years for that to come to fruition which I'm sure we can both agree would be pointless.

The logic behind not fighting Ortiz earlier makes sense to me as Parker was a good "name" and each fighter has the right to make the decision to pursue a mando spot or not. Chisora over Ortiz is where I diverge. Ortiz is a better resume builder and opportunity to establish Whyte as a "player" at heavyweight. Chisora is a domestic fight that does nothing for Whyte from a ranking stand point. It strikes me as a stay busy fight until Joshua Whyte II can be announced.

Fair question, does how a fighter looks during his fights count or is it just the final results and details which align with a narrative?

Because the same things that seemingly are a knock on Ortiz, are ignored when it comes to Whyte. He was knocked down, then gassed, then almost was knocked out (literally bear hugged Parker the last minute) by a pillow fisted Parker. Has only looked good lately versus a guy who has only looked good while on gear.

here's the thing about the english: they're actually very smart. i really think that few, if any british boxing fans who aren't just hooligans without a soccer game to watch, buy this idea that eddie hearn is an honest guy and that he's trying to save boxing and make the two biggest fights in boxing.
