The reason he got his leg almost taken off with a machete is still unknown however we do know he was in a hotel room with a man he'd not long met at 4 am or whatever time it was.

Those have to be the two most likely options - not many other reasons you'd end up at a strangers apartment in the early hours. Could be both of course, not that it matters either way. That my first assumption was drugs was more a reflection on my own experiences than on Kell's reality.
