No, if the ref saw it, it would not count as a KD.
He would not take a point away from Wilder because it was Fury's fault. But it hit Fury on an illegal, place the back of the head, and cannot count legally as a KD.
Simple point. Indeed you can see Fury tell the ref where it hit him and shouldn't have counted.

People here are confusing the 2 issues.

Bullshit! Fury was showboating after getting caught and hurt by the original right hand that Deontay Wilder landed. After that he was on his way down and got caught again a second time. This time it was behind the ear. That's all. It's no different than any other knockdown. This only goes to show and signify that Fury has a glass jaw and can't take a punch for shit. He easily has the worse chin in boxing history.

This is about the 9th rd., not the 12th rd.

what is shows, is just how great Fury is, and what a granite chin he has. A fighter so great he only gets tagged and dropped when showboating, and he gets right up and beats ass when he gets dropped.

Wilder is lucky it wasn't a 15 rounder, Fury was going to stop him in another round or so.

I know which round it is was. Wilder tagged him with not his best right hand as Tyson was showboating by sticking out his tongue and making faces as Wilder squared up for the second right hand, that caught Fury as he was on the way down in order to avoid that second punch but it got him any way as he was in the process of going down.

I think both sides need to just STOP gee wiz, did you guys take anything positive from saturday, seems like the best fights brings out the worst and most complaining from so called boxing fans, fury was not robbed, he did not dominate wilder, the fight was close, the count was not 15 seconds, fury got up on time, the ref did the right thing, lets celebrate that the HW division is back interesting. all everyone is doing is tearing down wtf is going on?

                Once and for all

                From: Association of Boxing Commissions

                Determination of a Knockdown

It shall be ruled a knockdown when, as a result of a legal blow or series of legal blows, a contestant:

                1. Touches the floor with any part of the body other than his/her feet;

                2. Is being held up by the ropes, or

                3. Is hanging on, through, or over the ropes without the ability to protect him/herself and cannot fall to the floor.

I put the "legal" in bold.

As I've been saying, the back of the head is not a legal place to get hit. Therefore, it should not have counted as a KD. If the ref had seen it, there would be no 9th rd KD. Fury then has 2 judges and would have been declared the winner by majority decision.

This is the kind of thing that calls for either an instant replay or after the fight review. I wonder why Fury's people don't request a review. I guess everything else that happened and they know a trilogy and more millions await.

Fury's performance even left Freddie Roach both baffled and perplexed. "He said he would have loved for Fury to have been a little more offensive and he didn't know what his corner was telling to not be more aggressive by putting Deontay Wilder on his ass". So there you have it. Even Freddie Roach; Tyson Fury's cutman wasn't even satisfied with Fury's performance.

So what? Some refs are terrible or corrupt? Ancient news.

How many refs do not penalize for low blows or potentially life threatening back of the head shots?

Because the ref in McClellan vs Benn allowed so many rabbit punches, does that make them legal? In that fight, proper reffing would have led to points deducted and a DQ if Benn continued, instead the ref said little and did nothing--with the tragic result.

All too many refs do not do a good job.
Re Wilder because he has fast hands, some things are not easily seen like his looping punches often connecting with the unpadded wrist area.

As I noted, boxing needs instant replay or a variation.
