If it goes the distance and Canelo wasn't hurt badly mutiple times Fielding won't get the decision. It just the way it is with Canelo.

History is littered with examples of smaller fighters moving up and struggling that first fight in a new weight class and even being upset because of it. And only after the fact do we acknowledge they lost or struggled to a lesser fighter because they are too small. Canelo is the better caliber fighter but Fielding will have a massive advantage in weight, height, reach which potentially could equalize the fight.

Example Oscar moving up to 160 and fighting Felix Sturm who was nowhere near the caliber and skills of Oscar and seen as a mismatch to grab a paper belt. Or Ricky Hatton moving up to 147 and fighting Luis Collazo who again was seen as a paper champ holding the lesser regarded WBA "regular" belt. Ricky Hatton was on top P4P lists and the king at 140. The extra size equalized both fights the star fighters struggled. That's what Fielding and his team are hoping for.
This!!! Fielding's attributes can be a much bigger factor than people think.

It seems like a bigger jump than 8 pounds somehow. Some enormous guys up there who really should beat Canelo if he were to pick them
Canelo turned pro at 140 and just got to 160 and isn't even a big 160lber. 168 is a huge jump and some folks are just discounting size. Canelo looks phuking tiny next to this man. No way he stays at 168 win or lose he's going back to 160.

A few posters were scoffing at the thought that Calum Smith could beat Canelo.

I appreciate Canelo is an elite and special fighter but Smith would have to box like an absolute drain to lose a decision to Canelo with his height and reach advantages and being a predominantly a jabber himself

You insinuate that Canelo wouldn’t schedule someone that’s challenging? Name me another fighter that has had his resume in the last decade. He ducks no one

what I'm saying is if they felt this fight was a real threat, they wouldn't schedule it 3 months after the ggg fight. This is just an attempt to get that 2nd fight in for 2018 since they had the may fight cancelled for the positive ped test. While they're at it, they figured they'd grab some paper title and pretend to be a 3 division champion. As far as canelos resume and duck no man, he defintely ducked ggg for almost 2 yrs and his opposition since the lara fight 4 yrs ago has consisted of mainky over matched opponents (Kirkland, khan, Smith and Chavez jr) mixed in with two guys that were 36 yrs old (cotto and ggg). Guess we'll see what happens in May.

                      - Kirkland was 28-1 and a dangerous puncher
                      - Khan decided he wanted the MW strap and based on his success was granted the fight. Anyone would have granted a boxer of his stature a shot
                      - Cotto was actually 35 and yes past his prime but still one of the GOT and dangerous. Remember when they laughed at Foreman in his 40s?
                      - GGG was still the best in the division and there was no one else who would challenge him nor anyone else that would beat him. Hell I’d still put GGG 2nd best in the division today
