Comments Thread For: Trainer: Fielding Has More Than Puncher's Chance To Beat Canelo

Rocky Fielding's trainer thinks those who feel his fighter has only a proverbial puncher's chance to beat Canelo Alvarez are misguided. Jamie Moore explained during a conference call Monday that Fielding isn't just bigger, but better, than fans unfamiliar with him realize. "He absolutely has more than a puncher's chance," Moore said. "I think the term puncher's chance means someone who can hit, but he's relying on a bit of luck to land that shot, whereas Rocky is much more of a rounded fighter than to just go in there and rely on hope to land a lucky shot. He's a very intelligent fighter and he's underappreciated, I feel. I think that a lot of fighters, especially the ones he spars, say you don't realize how good he is or how unorthodox he is. We'll certainly find out on the night of the fight."

If fielding had a chance, he wouldn't have gotten the fight.

Fielding only has a punchers chance... Only issue is, that he isn't the puncher here... Canelo is lmao

It's not really a punchers chance he has the bigger man chance. Fielding is a decent universally top 10 ranked 168lber but he's not a elite fighter like Canelo. Skill wise he's not in Canelo's league. But he is the bigger man. Moving up weight classes is ALWAYS a threat. History is littered with examples of smaller fighters moving up and struggling that first fight in a new weight class and even being upset because of it. And only after the fact do we acknowledge they lost or struggled to a lesser fighter because they are too small. Canelo is the better caliber fighter but Fielding will have a massive advantage in weight, height, reach which potentially could equalize the fight.

Example Oscar moving up to 160 and fighting Felix Sturm who was nowhere near the caliber and skills of Oscar and seen as a mismatch to grab a paper belt. Or Ricky Hatton moving up to 147 and fighting Luis Collazo who again was seen as a paper champ holding the lesser regarded WBA "regular" belt. Ricky Hatton was on top P4P lists and the king at 140. The extra size equalized both fights the star fighters struggled. That's what Fielding and his team are hoping for.

His absolute only chance of winning is a KO. There’s absolutely no chance of him getting a decision. Hopefully he understands that he’d have to be ****** not to.

Fielding gets stopped early. His chin is in Khan territory.

Interested in seeing the effect of Canelo’s punch. It’s taken as a given as he’s the puncher in the fight but if Rocky can absorb the punches and go the distance I don’t think Canelo can campaign at 168.

It seems like a bigger jump than 8 pounds somehow. Some enormous guys up there who really should beat Canelo if he were to pick them
