I don't know the way Floyd plans to deal with kicks, but I was relating to Larry that in the old days the kick boxing leagues had a rule where every round 8 kicks had to be fired off. Most guys just wanted to box LOL so they would get the eight kicks out of the way and duke it out.

Anyhow again, as another poster said, this is not boxing, this is Floyd and his decision. Japan has the strongest market for fight sports in the world frankly...Heck Sumo is still huge (pardon the pun) over there. The matches generate incredible cash, not to mention the ******** on the matches.
Interesting analysis. I didn't think of the Japanese market and trying to make inroads in it.

      I hear ya.

This con artist is just taking advantage of his dumbass fanbase that knows no better.

Funny thing is the same idiots defending this crap would crucify guys like canelo if he did this crap.

Think of it this way Flo: if every time some media slickey said "another black eye for boxing," it was so? The representatives for all of boxing would all be raccoons with steaks over their eyes!

Let Floyd buy his rims, his watches, and fight smaller men in an exotic land... Japan has a commercial fight culture all its own.

He could fight in Japan for a long time if he wanted to do so. He could do so at a level of competition that was not a threat to his skill level, and coast on it, and the Japanese fans would pay for it. In the old days fighters would often retire and go on tour fighting in quasi-exhibition matches. Nothing wrong, or dishonorable to do so.

When we look at the markets for this Japan stands alone. The only challenge to Japan's hedgemony came from the Middle East, before it destabilized...specifically the Saudis and Kuwaitees.

The only thing I question is why you think massive pop culture events are "sideshows" or "circus acts"?

Those by definition are usually low paying events for someone that is no longer relevant in their sport. Here Floyd is capitalizing off his success in fights like this and the ones described above while retaining his relevancy in his primary sport.

I think we can agree, could very easily fight a legitimate boxing match again if he chose to. So you saying he is a joke and a sell out seems more like you being upset he can do this or jealous that a guy you like can't.
No, not really upset or jealous about anything, I just find this charade hilarious. It's good for a laugh. But you seem pretty upset that I'm criticizing a fighter you like so much and continue to defend this. So you're telling me that Logan Paul vs KSI was not a sideshow boxing match, given how it was marketed as this big event? This is about showing integrity to the sport and it's obvious that this is desperate attempt to staying relevant. The only reason people will watch is because of his name alone. If you want to throw your money away on this circus by all means go right ahead, I won't stop you from being a sucker for it.

No he is not. He is making inroads into a new market of fans who would like to see his skills live against moderately competitive skill levels. Many fighters in their twilight, live off the Japanese fight sport markets, with its loyal fans, and always flush with cash. this has nothing to do with boxing.

I haven't defended anything, just responded to your post. I have no idea who those people are so I don't know what that is. It likely is a sideshow if they are 2 non boxers boxing.

A desperate attempt to remain relevant by fighting in Japan on New Years Eve? If you could get hold of your feelings you'd realize that there are far better ways to try and remain relevant. The fact you felt compelled to post shows how relevant Floyd still is.

Thank you for allowing me to spend my money the way I see fit. That is very nice of you.

What your anger tells me is you are upset Floyd can make money doing these things while guys you like do not. As far as the "showing integrity to the sport"-how exactly is it denigrating the sport if this isn't a straight boxing match?

How about you just tell us the real reason you are mad because with all due respect, as someone that has watched the sport and been a fan for well over 30 years, you will be hard pressed to show how making money denigrates the sport of prizefighting.

Boxing is a niche sport you’d be ****** not to maximize your profits outside of he ring if the opportunity presents itself. How many fans did Roy Jones knock out? I didn’t see many threads about that

Canelo tried too but he wasn’t big enough to land the fight. Him and Oscar basically begged for it. This fight is happening in Japan I can guarantee his fan base won’t be the only one purchasing it.
