So has Floyd finally become a circus act?

First fighting a non-boxer MMA fighter in the boxing ring, now fighting a 20 year old bantamweight kickboxer that not many know about. Is this really what boxing has degenerated to now? It has to be a sick joke.

Actually, there are plenty of actual boxing matches on all the available platforms that this fight, however it pans out, shouldn't even be a concern. It's like Floyd/Conor-more a pop culture event than a boxing match.

If you want to see it, buy it. If not, don't.

What does this have to do with boxing? This has to do with FLOYD MAYWEATHER, not boxing.

I'm well aware that matches like this have happened before, Ali and Duran have done it before. But it still doesn't make it any less of a sideshow and circus act and that is what Floyd has degenerated himself to, a sell out and a joke. I will be laughing at the fools who even think about watching it, let alone pay for it.

If thats how you feel, fine. People watched the Big Show fight on Wrestlemania and people in droves purchased and illegally streamed the Conor fight.

The only thing I question is why you think massive pop culture events are "sideshows" or "circus acts"?

Those by definition are usually low paying events for someone that is no longer relevant in their sport. Here Floyd is capitalizing off his success in fights like this and the ones described above while retaining his relevancy in his primary sport.

I think we can agree, could very easily fight a legitimate boxing match again if he chose to. So you saying he is a joke and a sell out seems more like you being upset he can do this or jealous that a guy you like can't.

LOL why do you care what people do with their time so much.

Its a novelty fight. Some people watch novelty fights. I've wasted an hour or so of my life watching what mighta been the worst fight ever in history between Ali & Inoki cuz I'm a fan of fighting. And I heard it was bad before I watched it. Its a part of fighting history doe. And I'm a fighting fan. So why wouldn't I watch Ali vs Inoki or Floyd vs this kickboxing kid? Maybe I'll watch it live, maybe I'll download it the next day or maybe I'll just follow the twitter rbr, but I'll for sure be paying attention to this cuz I'm a boxing fan.

So why does it bother you so much? I could see if this was some how impacting the landscape of boxing but that simply isn't the case. He is essentially a retired fighter not holding anything up. Why was there no heat thrown his way when he won the LMW WBA and WBC titles and would never defend them against actual LMW's? That is where the the criticism would have been valid. But the simple solution here is not to watch it or pay for it. You have every right to make that decision as do others. Just don't understand how people think this is a black eye for boxing when it has NOTHING to do with boxing.

On the surface it seems impulsive but it does make sense. Japan is fight sport crazy. the market over there cannot get enough, Whether it be catch wrestling, shoot wrestling, kick boxing, MMA, etc. its a wise market to enter if you want a few more pennies to pick up, so to speak.

I don't know the way Floyd plans to deal with kicks, but I was relating to Larry that in the old days the kick boxing leagues had a rule where every round 8 kicks had to be fired off. Most guys just wanted to box LOL so they would get the eight kicks out of the way and duke it out.

Anyhow again, as another poster said, this is not boxing, this is Floyd and his decision. Japan has the strongest market for fight sports in the world frankly...Heck Sumo is still huge (pardon the pun) over there. The matches generate incredible cash, not to mention the ******** on the matches.
