Shot to the back of the head or not, Martin was fighting apprehensive and not confident. The result was inevitable whether by stoppage or decision. That didn't surprise me because every time I wanted Ryan to impress me he'd struggle and win in less than convincing manner. Taylor will probably outbox Ivann Baranchyuk as he's more skilled and dynamic. He will see Prograis in the final which should be a cracker.

Additional thoughts- the British ring announcer was pretty bad, he butchered some pretty common names...Good to see British fight commentary as bad as the Americans...Zach Parker got an absolute gift in that fight before the two co-main events.

That stoppage was more than a little premature to me. Martin was probably slightly dazed due to the back of the head shot but in my judgement he still could have continued.

Although he was being outclassed, nothing justified that stoppage. It wasn't like he was out on his feet or something.

He deserved a chance at continue fighting. The ref was obviously partial and biased in favor of Taylor by waving that fight off so early.

Especially in the UK i must say but its everywhere. FORCE 8 COUNT MINIMUMS. on a positive note Taylor looked really good!
It's everywhere, man, not just though UK though this is a glaring example... worse even than Ward Kovalev 2 getting stopped on a nut shot. And yeah shoulda been a PT deduction and probably recovery time for Martin, certainly an unintentional foul, but a foul nonetheless.

As in that case though, it was looking like there was gonna be only one winner, and Taylor showed once again that he's a special talent and a fearsome body body puncher.

Two things I've taken from this fight: firstly, I expect a mouthwatering final between Taylor and Prograis (Baranchyk's a tough, tough, kid, but I don't think he's on the same level as Taylor) and secondly that Ryan Martin was in no shape or form ready for the big leagues yet, whatever his level of native talent. This was a huge step up both in class and in the magnitude of the event and he just looked overwhelmed in there. He also may need to work on being a bit more of a badass. I hope he's able to take this as a learning experience and move forward, but that one sided a fight has to be seriously demoralising... could galvanise the kid or could break him... time will tell.

I think it was a sensible stoppage, and Martin seemed happy with it.
He was put of his depth, taking a one sided beating and when the shot behind the ear landed, he turned, dropped, gave all the signals. He was never in the fight.
He seemed perfectly happy about the stoppage too. He knew the ref did him a favour.

It's the principle of the thing, man. You can't stop a fight on a foul. If the ref did want to stop it he should have called the foul, taken the appropriate action and then gone to have a word with Sanchez (or Ryan himself) or waited til the next opportunity presented itself.

Ivan Baranchyk needs to request a Vegas official just to make sure that some UK ref and Josh Taylor do not rob him of the IBF jr. welterweight title!

              I been throwing up since!
Gonna level with you. It was a bull**** call by the ref and should never have been stopped. The ref should be fired.

Martin was getting his ass beat though so it just saved him from further humiliation.

Refs are only human, but I’m sick of premature stoppages, a count at least would have been appropriate.

I worried this may have came too soon for josh but it looks like it’s going to be a 50/50 fight with prograis for the final.

Martin was being dominated, the shot was a hook to the side of the head and Martin indicated to the ref that he was done by holding the back of the head and folding up.

If Martin got back up he would have been jumped on by Taylor and finished, 100%.

People not taking into account that Martin never showed once in the fight that he was competitive, the stoppage was inevitable.

Yeah that kov vs ward was disgusting stoppage as well. Taylor looks like the goods. I like Martin, he come up with and sparred and foight amateur with a guy in our Gym. Martin a good dude and talented but had slim, chance against Taylor. However ialways believe a fighter deserves the fight to play out naturally and not hypathetically or thinking its ok for a fight to be stopped on a foul just because a guys down a few rounds. (Not that im,saying you believe its ok) theres alot to be learned by a fighter in the ring and in that environment that should play out.
