They have names but doesn't mean they were options.
It doesn't have to specifically be them but someone of that calibre. Both would beat Jason Welborn pretty easily even coming out of retirement. Hurd is reaching too far down the ladder for this one

I tend to agree, but we really don't know who was available behind the scenes. 154 isn't some loaded weight class. It's just top heavy imo.

There was a couple of close decisions though and Warburton claims that he's only been beaten 94 times.

Welborn wouldn’t be competitive in this if you gave him a club in his hand instead of a boxing glove. No disrespect to him because he’s had a nice career at domestic level culminating in a shock win for a British title that he compounded by doing it again.

Fair play to him. I hope he’s getting a few quid and can pay off a mortgage on a house or what have you.

But I don’t get these sorts of fights. Hurd will test his shoulder out in the gym.

I’d be surprised if all Hurd’s sparring partners wouldn’t beat Welborn.

I like Welborn, he got his British title the hard way when it looked like he was merely a domestic journeyman. I hope he is getting well paid and doesn’t get a prolonged beating because this a gross mismatch of the highest order and I’ll be amazed if it goes more than a couple of rounds.

I ain't got no issue at all with Hurd getting rid of the ring rust but don't stick the fight on a PPV card. The guy he's fighting is UK domestic level. Boxing kills itself with this stuff.

Hurd, one of my favorites right now, is coming off an injury and needs a tune-up....understandable - why the F is he on a PPV for?
