Boxing politics aarrrrgain. Smoke and mirrors, claims and counterclaims and for what? A 45-year-old WBA 'vanilla, I'm not really a full champ champ' with no future, no credibility except for past - long ago past achievements claiming VADA would not be able to carry out its job, turning down a half million dollar pay-day.
SMH, boxing never hits bottom, it just keeps digging.
How did this guy get a shot/ranking? Who does this guy know in the WBA? We criticise the WBC all the time especially with their Wilder mandatory situation but what about the WBA? They are a joke! No way should anyone that hasn’t fought for 4 years get a chance at any title.
Good call by Fres imo. 3weeks away from a fight means most of the benefits of a lot of PEDs, particularly steroids, high, clen, etc. have already been accrued and it's time to cycle off to pass the pre- and post-production fight tests.
Certainly raises some questions over certain fight contracts getting signed very close to fight dates.
I feel like I should sympathise with Oquendo because we have big problems with drugs right now, especially at heavyweight. But come on, guy. Drugs or no, you're probably not winning this fight, or any other fight against any credible contender in this current division. You've not fought in an eternity, and you're being offered an excellent payday for a guy who's borderline geriatric in terms of the normal length of a fighter's career. Sure, I guess you can enforce your mandatory status once Miller wins the title against the replacement guy, but I doubt that Hearn will still be inclined to offer you 500K at that point. Why didn't you just take the money and retire once you're inevitably beaten?
