If Canelo stays at 168..what does GGG do??

The simple answer is to go to Astana, Kazakhstan, offer up a bag that Eddie Hearn can't get Andrade to walk away from, fight Andrade (shopping the deal in every market on a market-by-market basis; Russia, Germany, the UK, and the US being the main deals, though primetime across Africa may be worth something), and ride off into the sunset.
Golovkin finally got the few massive paydays that he's been chasing since Universum, his family is set at least through his son's life, he's 37, and he was able to work his way to an ok career.
If he was ever really going to fight at 168, he would've done it alreadyComment

Lol
GGG still got it. Blast through Charlo/Andrade/Saunders. One or two of those then retire.
I don't think he'll follow to 168.Comment

He certainly has the skills to beat those guys, but those have the potential to be wars and take a lot out of him. So let's say he beats any combination (or all 3 of them) before a Canelo fight. He'd be even older and more war torn.Comment

What GGG does next has less to do with what he wants and more to do with what Canelo wants. If Canelo is willing to complete the trilogy with him but at 168 then GGG will move up. Otherwise GGG will look into making the best fights for the biggest money. I think these guys would be amongst his next opponents in order of realism: winner of Jacobs vs. Sergei Dereverkenko (whatever his name is), Demetrious Andrade, Jermall Charlo with Billy Joe Saunders becoming an option once his suspension is lifted as long as he is willing to abide by VADA testing.
Outside of Canelo at 168 I don't think the options at 168 are as interesting or would generate as much money as those other guys at 160.Comment

Part of me wonders if cutting down to 160 is really allowing him to fight at his best. Sure he makes the weight but maybe only cutting down to 168 will improve his cardio. I just saw the rematch last night (better late than never) and there were times he almost looked like he was hyperventilating in the corner between rounds.
For the record, I've been accused of being the biggest GGG buttboy here but I think Canelo won the rematch. I had Canelo winning 115-113 but some of the rounds were close enough to flip it towards GGG or have it even wider for Canelo.Last edited by yankees7448; 10-24-2018, 01:00 PM.Comment

People are overestimating Canelo's flirtation with 168. It was an idea by his trainer. The trainer told him to make history by acquiring a belt at a third weight. Nothing more, nothing less. He was taking an easy fight next for December anyway, so instead of Lemiux, why not do something different? People making such a huge deal out of it. Just enjoy that it's more than your average soft touch in between the real competition.
Unless Canelo feels great at the weight and can handle the power and weight of Fielding, he'll go back down. I also think if Canelo likes the way his body responds at 168lbs, and decides to stay, he'll make an exception for GGG and fight him a 3rd time at 160lbs.Comment

ggg is 37yrs old and has been making 160 for many years...weight cuts don't get easier as a fighter gets older. canelo is not a big mw and his weight cut is probably relatively comfortable. while it may also benefit canelo not to have to cut, I think it's more beneficial to the older fighter who's been a mw much longer.Comment
