Boxing in America should be on FREE broadcast tv Just like any other sport!
Boxing in America MUST be promoted, FOX will do that with the PBC!
Boxing on FREE broadcast tv will add some legitimacy to it because it will be
on the same platform with the NFL and other popular sports in America!

Arum made the right move with ESPN, Al with FOX and Showtime.. right move,
Oscar with DZAN is still a wait and see adventure NOT enough supporting
mechanisms and legitimacy surrounding that platform!

Boxing isn't a mainstream sport and hasn't been for a long time.

With all of these new deals boxing has I am hoping in 3-5 years it can be a mainstream sport again.

For guys like Canelo that already have real shine being on DAZN is no big deal. He already has got his shine, but for building a new generation of stars eyeballs are needed for that. You cant't create a star in a vacuum no matter how much money is spent, there needs to be a solid audience.

With HBO or Showtime a lead in with a show or great movie will perhaps give a sports/boxing fan who had no idea who a guy was exposure to them. ESPN or Fox have decent lead in and can promote with other sports programming to get extra shine on a guy or event.

How is DAZN going to make anyone watch anyone they don't already care about. I think it is an issue for Joshua if he wants to get bigger in the USA, if it is an issue for him that is a huge issue for guys much lower on the boxing food chain. Canelo can help a bit but twice a year at best which might help a couple events the following month or so.

IF DAZN blows up this isn't an issue (but that is hard to see in the US without leagues that begin with M or N in their profile) but if it languishes even though the money is good what are they really capable of doing with that investment. Two years is a long time in boxing

It’s like Netflix. Anything you can watch Netflix on you can watch DAZN on. No excuse.

If you’re a broke ass and can’t afford 10 bucks then you and your boys can gather up some change and watch it separately. I don’t know how many devices work at the same time but I had it on I think 3 things last night. My bedroom, living room, and phone when I was grilling in the back.

It’ll take time to grow of course but the ease of access is there just like with anything, including espn, netflix, etc.

Like they say. Once you know, you know. Once the big fights roll around, you’ll see many more drawn to it and thus knowing the platform and either keeping it or get it for the months they want.

It’s actually quite a good thing for someone to think boxing is in a different “network”. There’s boxing everywhere right now and if you don’t look it up, you’ll end up watching a different fight. It’s a good time.
This isn't Netflix. I turn on my TV and hit the Netflix button. It's just like tuning to a channel. You are living in a bubble

I for one am glad that boxing is moving on from the dinosaur age it's been stuck in for decades.

Question is how would this be different if it wasn't on dazn?
Andrade is a boring fighter. He's facing a last minute replacement for a title that lacks prestige. Hbo is out, so if this fight was on showtime, what are we looking at? I'd guess 150-250k viewers, vast majority of whom were watching showtime and didn't change the channel.

Give this app time, isn't it like 2 months old?

How? You don’t make it more popular by making it less accessible. Dodgers have been hurt by making their exclusive deal with one provider.

Me: Naw he's fighting on a new app

                  Barber: On the ESPN app?

Me: No. A new app called DAZN

Barber: Yea I heard of that. Imma have to check it out n

The barber knows who Andrade is. He knows ESPN broadcast fights now. He knows about ESPN plus & DAZN. He's not a casual fan but he's not as hardcore as we are. He follows the sport but needed direction me where to watch the fight. IDK if he watched or not. But I know if it was on ESPN he'd watch it because of ease of access.

An American boxer won a major world title and probably only 20k people saw it. Explain to me how this is good for American boxing.

It's the times we live in though. Today there is an app for everything. Netflix, Hulu, HBO app, Amazon prime, Sling etc.
Don't think the apps are a problem, the problem in my opinion is the inactivity of fighters.
Unless your name is Canelo or Mayweather you really should be fighting 3-4 times a year.
We also need a weekly boxing show, at about the same time every week.

I thought the US is about 350mil people. What's all this it didn't trend and many sport activities and all that rubbish.

With 350mil people, you don't need to be competing for the fight or sports event that trend more. There are slot people to make every sport and fighter look important.

Cut all these BS for gods sake.

You are right the inactivity of the fighters is the big problem. But I don’t think making it more inaccessible is going to help.

Had there been good fights and consistently between top fighters we wouldn’t be moving to apps as the primary source to get boxing. I don’t think those apps you listed are comparable. You need to look at others sports apps. Those apps supplement general coverage. Compare with Big Ten Network or the SEC network.
