It was a calculated roll of the dice. If he won he would of been in a unification with Joshua rather than just a mandatory. Wilder obviously thought he would beat Wilder otherwise it would of made no sense to take the fight.

Ortiz's manager Jay Jimenez confirmed that they likely won't be facing Whyte next but that they could be returning the UK in the near future.

"Eddie and I are working on maybe doing a big money three fight deal for Luis Ortiz so it looks likely to happen soon. Eddie could make Luis a big star in the UK," Jimenez told BoxingScene.com.

I remember the day of the Ortiz/Whyte twitter spat, Hearn gave an interview and said that he had been talking to Ortiz's people earlier that day before Whyte and Ortiz went at it.

He said he was talking to them about a different fight. At the time I wondered if he meant for one of his other fighters against Ortiz , or a fight for Ortiz. Sounds like it was maybe the latter.

As long as it's a bit more inspired than his last outings working with Hearn. He should of shined against Allen and Scott.

I disagree, first of all Matchroom never delivered GayJ, you would think doing buisness with them Ortiz should not have to depend on a mandatory, the red-flag was when Eddie was threatening to drop not only the IBF, but also the title that Ortiz was lined for ( WBA ).

Obviously team Ortiz, made the right choice because Al Haymon delivered a shot at the WBC, despite failing a PED test the first time. Eddie Hearn has proven not to be trusted ; even 'Fat-Baby' Miller talks shyte about him to his face on video, Hearns is a snake.

Wasn't he stripped of his mandatory status due to the positive VADA test? He was also suspended from their rankings for a year.
