Well, what real reason was there for Golovkin to move up? His goal was to win all of the belts at 160lbs, and he was well on his way to doing it at one point. I don't think there was any need for him to move up - and I still don't - unless a big money fight up there proved too enticing.
I personally am not a big fan of boxers moving up in weight when they don't need to. I would rather see them in their best weight class, where they are most comfortable and we get to see the best of their abilities.

And if Canelo was really trying to say he believes in himself, he would have opted to face one of the real champions at 168lbs, like Smith or Benavidez. I'm sure either would have jumped at the chance to land that fight, no matter when or where it was to be held. I don't have a problem with Canelo taking this fight and testing the waters at 168lbs, but let's call it what it is: he's targeting a weak 'champion' to win an easy belt and call himself a three-weight world champion. No more, no less.
