Billy Joe Saunders B Sample: Some Clarity on the Situation

I know when reports came out last week or the week prior that BJS' test came back negative, that was from a month later from the one he failed. Looks like his camp has not asked for the B sample, mainly because they admit to taking something that would result in a positive test. In this case, they said it was nasal spray. If the B sample had in fact been requested and came back negative, then the fight would have gone on. Hope this clears it up for those that think it was his B sample that came back negative and not the test he took a month later.

Even if there was a B sample, admitting you took it > B sample

That's the thing, he admitted taking an illegal substance or something that contains an illegal substance so there is no point in asking for the B sample. And really, he knows it was going to come back positive anyways.

At least we can put to rest that his B sample came back negative as that simply wasn't the case here.

even if there was a negative b sample i never understood how it proved he was innocent anyway. if 1 tests positive, 1 tests negative why do we just just disregard the positive one?

Whenever you are tested they split it into 2 samples, if it shows up in one sample but not the other it could indicate that the testing lab was using contaminated equipment. But in the few cases it has happened it seems most likely a storage issue, not preserving the sample correctly could mean certain chemicals change composition and don't show up in a test.

Correct, taking two samples is to protect the athlete in case there was contaminated equipment used or what not.
