Being american is about keeping certain aspects of your own culture while assimilating yourself into the daily lifestyle of US life. In all honesty if certain chicanos love for mexico runs that deep, then why didint they represent mexico during the olympics? There would have been nothing to stop them from doing so. Once your wear the flag on your shoulder in international competition, you solidify the fact that you are indeed, an american.

I dont think thats true, many individuals have defected to the united states from europe/africa and played sports here representing america in olympic competition. Just like a womens soccer goalie representing mexico in the olympics and she was born here. Or the most famous, Hakeem Olajuwon representing USA Basketball in 1992
