Golovkin's last few fights.

cosign this. it's funny how people criticize him for not blowing out other top fighters tho.A little of both probably. But let's be real, the guy is damn near a decade older than Canelo and he still arguably won both fights
I'd say that the last was a toss up but the first fight, to me, was a crystal clear Golovkin victory
GGG at his peak vs Canelo at his peak? I'd take Gennady and by a pretty sizable marginComment

“He’s going to come at Canelo like he did Vanes. He’s serious now.”
:/
It’s competition more than age. He was always going to be 8 ish years younger than Canelo. “Too young tho.” Woulda been the flip side on Canelo’s side.
It’s all fun and games when you’re knocking out Curtis Stevens. The problem is that half the boxing world knew Canelo had the perfect set of tools/attributes/skill to compete against or beat GGG and the other half just hate Canelo.
GGG is amazing tbh but when the guy standing infront of you has the chin, pride, ferocity, and pedigree...it changes things. Brook got broken down eventually. He couldnt hang because of size...but Jacobs and Canelo aren’t going to be intimidated by anyone and they’re not going to just let you do whatever you want. They have the skills to do something about it. Jacobs came up just a little short and Canelo can fight you any way you want.
I’m not sure anyone can actually beat GGG outside of Canelo but he took a LOT of punishment and I just dont see how his chin is going to hold up forever. Someone a little bigger might be able to put the finishing touches on his chin and I’m not sure Charlo will be that guy or if he’s even skilled enough but I wouldnt be surprised to start seeing some give soon.
Biases aside, Canelo really did beat him up for parts of that fight.Comment

Yeah it is funny, it really is. I mean for f**k's sake Canelo Alvarez is one of the best fighters in the f**king world. Gennady is 8 years older and still clearly beat Canelo once (anybody who thinks Canelo actually won or even deserved a draw in that fight should have their boxing fan card revoked for life), and lost by cards of 114-114, 115-113, and 115-113 in the rematch. That was as razor thin of a decision and fight that you'll ever see and yet we got dudes in here who act like it was a Canelo blowout

That's my opinion. I think it is a shame we never got to see him during his late 20's early 30's against other top end fighters.
It is pretty amazing coming from Kazakhstan what he has been able to achieve. There are only a few guys in boxing history who have come close in geographic desolation to what Golovkin has done (Azumah Nelson comes to mind, but he fought in the States in his 9th fight).
Look at the Hall of Fame and where guys come from:

I answered the question and stated why. My answer is fair, logical, and not controversial or demeaning in any way. If you feel differently, post why, and then we can debate.
Instead you responded with a really ****** question regarding something I've never personally posted about GGG.
What is the reason for doing that?Comment

It's a bit of both. He still deserves to be unbeaten but I think he was a little overrated to begin with. I think he was/is a very good fighter but not a great one. Same for Canelo in all honesty and the fact that Canelo has had so much trouble with him and probably deserves to be 0-2 vs. a fading version doesn't suggest we are looking at a special fighter there no matter how hard that angle is being pushed by fanboys.
It is a shame that in Golovkin's physical peak about 3-4 years ago his division was decidedly mediocre but it's hard to deny a fighter of his style is going to slow down and be less effective in his mid to late 30's. He's not an overly technique or finesse fighter.Comment

Some of both. But some of the blame I lay on him, namely Jacobs fight. That was the first fight he looked beatable in, and he didn't take many risks in that fight. He took some towards the end of the fight when he poured it on, but he boxed very cautiously and gave Jacobs a lot of respect. If he came at him just a tad more aggressive, he would have gotten Danny out of there in a dominant fashion.
In the first fight against Canelo, Canelo was huge. Golovkin got hit by a few counters that Canelo threw in the beginning of the fight and got gunshy, most noticeably getting away from the body attack. That cost him.
The second fight was awesome. I think they both gave it their all, with Golovkin going back to his background more and Canelo believing in himself. They both did well.
Having said that, Canelo has been boxing for along time now. He's been in the ring with some good fighters. He had plenty of experience against Floyd, but there's still a huge difference between a 22 year old and a 28 year old - that's a damn gulf.
Despite that, Golovkin highly arguably won both fights. In most people's eyes, him and Canelo are exactly on the same level. Being on the same level at age 36 as Canelo at 28 is absolutely nothing to sneeze at.
Where Golovkin fails is in comparisons. Hopkins won his first major fight also at age 36, and that was also against a 28 year old Tito.Comment

So that begs the question was Tito a better fighter than Canelo at age 28. He's not as versatile IMO. Better stamina yes. Power?? Possibly the same. Defense Canelo. Hand speed Canelo. Punch resistance Canelo. Some of both. But some of the blame I lay on him, namely Jacobs fight. That was the first fight he looked beatable in, and he didn't take many risks in that fight.
