After the Canelo rematch, GGG’s trainer Abel Sanchez is unclear of the path Team Golovkin will take.
“After that rematch with Canelo, who knows? It’s a matter of sitting down with the whole team and trying to line up a path that’s best for Gennady. Nothing is written in stone and you just mentioned [David] Lemieux should he win [with Billy Joe Saunders] and that’s another name that could happen next year. Depending on how the whole negotiations go with Tom Loefller and Golden Boy who handles Canelo, then we can map out 2018.”
One option would be the mandatory challenger to Golovkin’s WBC middleweight title, Jermall Charlo. Charlo recently moved up to middleweight and knocked out John Sebastian Heiland to become the mandatory contender. Sanchez says that just like Golovkin had to wait his turn, so does Charlo.
“He knocked out a cripple, Sanchez said of Charlo stopping Heiland. “I think he has to earn he right to fight Golovkin. Just like a guy like Keith Thurman is telling Spence he has to wait to fight because he’s not known. I think these guys have to earn a shot to fight someone like Golovkin or Canelo. Reason they want to fight Golovkin or Canelo is because they want to cash out.”
“They want a big purse. Golovkin was number 1 rated for Felix Sturm for two years and then Martinez. Then we were mandatory for Cotto and even for Canelo it took a while. You have to make sure the people want the fight. Can you imagine what Charlo would do in sales? He wouldn’t sell nothing. I think we like to make title fights but obviously you have to earn them and he hasn’t earned it.”

GOLOVKIN'S TRAINER SLINGS HYPOCRISY: CHARLO'S GOTTA EARN HIS SHOT AT GENNADY
August 7, 2017:
Abel Sanchez, trainer of IBF/WBC/WBA middleweight champ Gennady Golovkin either has a very short memory or a very high tolerance for hypocrisy.
When recently asked about Jermall Charlo’s status as the WBC’s mandatory challenger, Sanchez was very clear about his unwillingness to accept the sanctioning body’s “must fight” proclamation.
“[He earned the shot] by fighting who? What does that mean that he's a mandatory? That he deserves a shot? He's got to earn his shot. We sat for Felix Sturm for two years. We sat for Sergio Martinez for two years. These guys all of a sudden think that they deserve a shot at the winner of Golovkin and Canelo - they're crazy. They've got to earn it," he said during an interview with Boxingscene.
Sanchez is clearly forgetting Golovkin’s fairly recent bout with Dominic Wade back in April of 2016. You know, the one where Sanchez and the rest of Team Golovkin claimed that their hands were tied in taking on Wade because he was their IBF mandatory. In terms of “deserving,” Wade’s pre-Golovkin resume makes Charlo’s look Hall of Fame-worthy by comparison.
But, of course, the narrative painted for Golovkin was that nobody would face him and that fighters were hiding under their beds rather than even consider stepping into the ring with him. So, if press releases and conveniently-placed fake news were to be believed, then fighting Wade couldn’t be held against him—right?
Now that Golovkin managed to get the money fight (against Canelo Alvarez) he always wanted, though, there’s apparently no need to pretend about Triple G’s burning desire to face the best at all costs.
One could go back and ask aloud whether many of Golovkin’s opponents have actually, as Sanchez says, “earned their shot.” Not Willie Monroe Jr. Not welterweight Kell Brook. Not Nobuhiro Ishida. Not Osumanu Adama. (We could go on and on).
But, oh yeah, he had to fight no-hopers back then because nobody but no-hopers, damaged retreads, and career fall guys would consider facing his awesomeness. Forgive me for forgetting the Triple G talking points.
However, Sanchez is not all bad guy. He did offer some advice to Charlo in the quest to land a fight with a fighter on another level of stardom.
"[Charlo] needs to stay busy, stay fighting and stay relevant. Because when the time comes to fight the people have to know him."
Funny, but bigger stars were telling Golovkin pretty much the same thing for years and got branded cowards for it. Weird how that works, isn’t it?

You Canelo haters need to stop hating so much and give Canelo the props he's earned.
You act like Canelo is afraid of Charlo or something..
If you really believe he's afraid then you're a fool!

Letting him take an optional defense after that is not
exactly protecting their 'cash cow'.
Had Golovkin beaten Canelo he would have had Charlo
waiting for him, so pitting the two against each other
makes more sense than an immediate rubber match
between Canelo & GGG. I know some people would prefer
if they just keep letting Golovkin fight Canelo over-&-over
until GGG finally manages to win, but that's not realistic or
likely to happen.

Even some moron talking about a damned purse bid - but for GGG vs Charlo, not Charlo vs Canelo!
News flash 1: Golovkin is no longer the WBC champion, Canelo is!
News flash 2: Charlo isn't asking for a fight with GGG, he wants to fight Canelo!
Question you should be asking, instead of bashing GGG like a bunch of mindless pricks: Why are the WBC telling Charlo he has to beat GGG to get a shot at Canelo?
Jermall is the interim champion. That's supposed to mean he has the right to fight for the full title immediately, if he wants to.
The WBC can grant Canelo a voluntary defence before Charlo, if they see fit. But they have no business ordering Jermall to fight somebody else before he gets his shot!
How ****** can you really be??
Has there been any communication between Oscar and Al Haymon for a Canelo-Charlo fight?
Has Canelo refused the fight? Has he dropped the belt?
You morons who hate Canelo so much need to stop believing everything the Charlos tell the media.
Be a man and base what you say on facts, not hearsay!
Have you ever heard of a contract being sent to Canelo to fight Charlo and him rejecting it??
You Charlo nuttriders need to think for yourself and stop believing everything you read and hear on social media.
Canelo would fucc up both Charlos on the same night!
