HBO Boxing's demise was a long time coming, but if you want to blame any recent event, blame the AT&T-Time Warner merger. It severely constrained HBO Boxing's budget the past 18 months, during which all the big promoters made deals elsewhere.Comment

Exactly what I was about to say. HBO is evolving into something else, and Boxing was being phased out slowly. It became less and less important to them, and more and more a burden.
They are to be held up as revered reason boxing stayed relevant through this century. Without HBO, the US would have had no champion of the sport. I actually am fine with them bowing out if they are not 100% interested in growing the sport. But without them, boxing is a non-event from the 1990's - 2000's.Comment

Oh Rudy has returned. Rudy for some reason chose to come online and tell me he has 3 homes that he collects rent from his tenants so he doesn’t have to work. I simply asked him for his name so I can prove what he is saying is true. However I get that, who am I? So I simply asked how much stamp duty did you pay on the house? I figured it would confuse him as he referred to having 3 homes as “ I have 3 house”. Anyway he went awol as you do, sorry tell a lie he said to me do I bet and I would never bet with him as it’s against my religion. Unfortunately for him that all I do is gamble to my demise admittedly but the last 3 years I have set up a online betting business so I’m slowly garnering my money back.

Yes HBO definitely carried boxing for most of the past 3 decades and we should all be thankful for that.
I think when Top Rank left, that was really when it was all over. It's a good thing though. Now boxing is more accessible to the public.
I just hope there isn't any backlash because of its violent nature as it gains more exposure. Similar to how football has received negative criticisms because of all the concussions and such over the past few years.
Can you imagine what would happen if a boxer got seriously hurt in the main event of a major ESPN + card? It would send boxing back after years of progress. The reason why boxings survived is because it's such a niche sport, that the media never covered the boxers who died in the ring on super minor cards.Comment
