Saul Alvarez becoming emeritus champion (stripped of the title, but with the right to have an immediate title shot "once his injury clears up and he's ready") solves everything (Charlo gets his title shot for the vacant, Alvarez gets to fight Lemieux and Golovkin again without any issue).

Otherwise, we end up with a cluster **** to start 2019 (similar to the Golovkin situation, where Golovkin made a deal with the IBF with no intention of honoring the deal, daring them to strip him, which they did)
    Happy now?

Happy has got nothing to do with it.

Golovkin's not going to fight Charlo (his camp has already said he's taking off the rest of the year after the second Canelo fight, and he's quite unlikely to jump into camp for an early 2019 fight with a prime guy like Charlo before then heading back into camp for the May 2019 third fight with Alvarez), and it's not likely that Alvarez chooses to fight Charlo on the May 2019 date.

Rather than do things the easy way, the WBC chose a different tact

Whether GGG fights Charlo or not is irrelevant. You were just naive to believe Canelo wouldn't get a voluntary defense in December. You thought the WBC was going to strip him three months in as the champion? No way.

Canelo could take a dump on José Sulaimán's grave and the WBC wouldn't strip him. In fact, they'd probably wipe his ass for him.

Indeed, WBC wasn't messing up their paper like that especially when Canelo has already shown in the past them that he wouldn't forced to play by their rules.

But it made no sense to strip him so soon anyways. Like they weren't going to call the mandatory before years end, let alone force him to defend vs his mandatory before years end. I think that would apply to most, not only Canelo. While it is true the Canelo sanctioning fees are great and all, I don't fault the WBC here. They did the right thing as well as ordering Charlo vs GGG. If GGG doesn't take it, then Charlo gets direct shot at Canelo.

Alvarez has his voluntary (which the WBC has given him through December) and then his mandatory is next.

With Golovkin already taking the rest of the year off, and deeply unlikely to fight Charlo, Alvarez will have his assumed December fight, the WBC will give him a few days, and then, likely not long after the New Year, Canelo will have a decision to make.

Either fight Charlo , fight the Derevyenchenko-Jacobs or Saunders/Andrade winner, or be content to fight Golovkin a third time for the WBA/IBO/Ring magazine distinction

Okay, so what does that have to do with him being stripped for taking a voluntary defense in December against someone like Lemieux?

Oh, in this particular instance, I'm not complaining about WBC's shady stuff because GGG vs Charlo and the winner vs Canelo are to the benefit of the fan.

The mandatory has been due for some time now since 2017.

Voluntary defense against Vanes, voluntary defense against Alvarez, a coming voluntary defense against Lemieux, and a likely voluntary defense in the third Alvarez-Golovkin fight?
