The WBC is in a pickle, and Sulaiman has already said as much: Alvarez's next two fights already penciled in, neither fight is with Jermall Charlo, and having Charlo wait two years for his shot can't publicly hold.

Saul Alvarez becoming emeritus champion (stripped of the title, but with the right to have an immediate title shot "once his injury clears up and he's ready") solves everything (Charlo gets his title shot for the vacant, Alvarez gets to fight Lemieux and Golovkin again without any issue).

Otherwise, we end up with a cluster **** to start 2019 (similar to the Golovkin situation, where Golovkin made a deal with the IBF with no intention of honoring the deal, daring them to strip him, which they did)
