It was still a bad comparison because Muhammad Ali was already the people's champion but was stripped of his official crown because he was a conscientious objector to the Vietnam war. Ali gained more fans before the first Joe Frazier fight due to his activism and controversial stand against Vietnam.
Now Lampley calling GGG a modern day Ali?

I don't think Canelo is for sure gone. I do think this could be some attempt to save GGG doe cuz GGG seemed pissed at the world after this fight & he wasn't super happy with anyone before the fight.
I actually think GGG is more likely to be gone than Canelo, assuming HBO is going to continue with boxing at all cuz that seems like the first thing thats in question with HBO to me.Comment

He lost all credibility. How can you take him serious calling another fight ESPECIALLY a fight involving GGG. How can you go from he got a shaky resume with folks killing him for not fighting anyone and if he loses to canelo his career is a failure then he loses and days later him not winning is no big deal because he already a modern Muhammad Ali. He never did this shyt for fighters who ACTUALLY got robbed. Even the folks who didn't have it for Canelo thought it was a draw or GGG barely escaped, there is no debate that GGG dominated at worse it's a close fight he didn't win. It's a disrespect to fighters who really got robbed to act like this. And he never compared real fighters with dominating wins over elite guys to Ali who already was the people champ and slayed dragons before Frazer. GGG beat bums and the moment he stepped up the 2 good fighters he faced he looked bad going officially 1-1-1 in those fights all controversial. A case could be made he lost all those fights and stopped being what the media hyped him to be. His label as killer ended once he stopped fighting tomato cans and at worst he lost the only fights against good fighters at best he showed no separation from them. That makes you Ali? What ridiculous ****. You see why GGG always gets these terribly biased cards in favor of him on HBO. Good riddance once they stop showing boxing.Comment

Lampley unfortunately used Ali as a comparison to illustrate how Golovkin has expanded his fan base. Unfortunate because Ali is revered and any comparison begs a further comparison of boxing ability and personal achievements. My impression is that isn't the case at all. In other words chill out this is a non issue.Comment
