I think they should make the fight now because Crawford doesn't have anyone but top rank guys to fight and Spence is being avoided by Thurman and Porter, plus Mikey may end up fighting Commey. So this would be a good time to make the fight after Crawford wrecks his mando.
De La Hoya: It’s the right time to make Canelo vs. Spence
August 13, 2018:
In this video interview caught by Fight Hub TV, Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya is asked about his interest in possibly making a fight between Canelo Alvarez and Errol Spence Jr. Check out what he had to say...
“Absolutely. Canelo is always willing and ready to face the very best and I believe Errol Spence can come up a couple weight divisions and challenge a fighter like Canelo and that’ll be a superfight.
“But you have to come and talk to us because we would know how to stage that type of event. We would really make that a super event with Canelo and Spence but obviously first thing is first. Spence has his plans and Canelo has — we have our plans so we’ll see what happens in the future but I’m hoping I get that knock at the door from Spence, that one day he wants to be involved in a major pay-per-view.”

The word has come down recently from WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman that Spence won't be able to unify with Porter soon because of his two mandatory defenses. Therefore, a Spence vs Crawford fight probably won't happen no sooner than 2020.

June 18, 2018:
"I mean, it is impossible in my opinion to do this fight Crawford against Spence either on ESPN or Showtime without pay-per-view because the legitimate demands for both fighters, and considering what they are both paid in the past, would just make it prohibitive. It would blow Showtime's budget, it would have a big dent in our budget."
Crawford, in his last outing versus Horn on June 9th, was reportedly paid in the neighborhood of $3 million. To satisfy the financial demands of both boxers and involve both networks the pay-per-view platform is the only way to go says Arum.
"So I really think that I would love to sit with [Spence's manager Al] Haymon and with [Showtime Sports head Stephen] Espinoza and really work this out so it isn't just idle conversation," Arum said.

Make the call! Until then, it is idle conversation!
