lot of people seem to be experts on hbo finance in here. who cares if they are cutting boxing investment, all any company cares about is TOTAL REVENUE and they are getting better returns on their investments in other areas. they are doing just fine, dont worry about them.

Idk that I'd count Canelo & Cotto. Latino's are firmly settled in the US & Latino's are draws in the US. Non-American/Non-Latinos have a much harder uphill climb to stardom in the US & its not even arguable its not true if you do minimal research.

Although in fairness to HBO all of the non-American/non-Latino big draw super stars over the last 3 decades were created by them (Lennox, Manny & Gennedy).

HBO spend A LOT on Game of Thrones and simply cut their budget on Boxing and with limited dates and limited access to US fighters it’s natural that they are moving out of the game.
HBO had been lowering their budget LONG before GoT was a thing. The budget for boxing has been shrinking for 2 decades. Idk what this wrong narrative of this lower budget being a new thing. Granted in recent years its gotten harder to make moves the budget is so small, but there has been a steady decreasing budget since ~2000ish.

Cotto is American. Puerto Ricans are Americans. Mexicans have always drawn well. Pac is an outlier. What's new is the Eastern European fighters becoming a draw in America.

And HBO banned Haymon from their network. I don't know why ya'll keep overlooking this. They banned him and went the EE and cheap lower weight class route.

They banned Haymon because he wanted exorbitant amounts for mismatches such as Berto v Freddy Hernandez

They kicked off with Arum because Arum wanted big money for **** mismatches for the likes of Crawford and Lomachenko. HBO told him to step up the quality of his fights given SHOWTIME was killing it. InsiArum balked, cried about it and took his ball and went to ESPN

It also hasn't helped a guy in Peter Nelson is in charge who has no clue how to run a boxing department

Like I don't think HBO is obsessed with lil guys. I think their budget lead them to making that whole SuperFly angle a thing. You work with what you got. And HBO has had progressively less money given to them for boxing events.

HBO's relationship with Haymon going south back in the day mighta been among the top causes along with money to the move towards so many non-US/non-Latino fighters since Haymon has such a vast collection of talented US fighters that hold appeal & HBO didn't have as much access to them as they once did.

You're repeating propaganda from fake news boxing media. They banned him after Floyd signed the deal with Showtime, which HBO had an opportunity to match btw. And Top Rank left because there wasn't enough money for their fighters. Top Rank was 4th fiddle at HBO. Crawford and Lomachenko were behind GGG, Kovalev, and Canelo. And Arum said Nelson was trying to matchmake.

Puerto Rico is a US territory but he's not marketed as a fighter from USA and spoken broken English. Mexico is an independent nation in North America. It is not part of the United States.

There's not been many fighters better than Pacquaio but I think GGG had been drawing higher ratings than any American boxer not named Mayweather.

HBO is moving out of the Boxing business it wasn't due to an "obsession" with Europeans no matter how badly certain people want to push that narrative. A European fighter is drawing better ratings on ESPN than the outstanding American fighter currently so it's not like people are watching the rest and boycotting the Europeans.

Well HBO boxing was built off the backs of Great American and Latin fighters, Sweet Pea Whitaker and Tito Trinidad still holds the record for the highest rated fight on HBO and that will likely never be broken.

No Question HBO went away from that and went strictly international. While that is great for us hardcore fans who can see these guys on HBO in Full HD and not some awful Stream Online fighting in their home countries, to the Casual American Sports Fans they don't give a DAMN about some Foreigner they never heard of.

To every Foreign Fighter that made in big here in the US, it was an American Fighter opposite of him and that is how Don King or Bob Arum would make a name for that Foreign Fighter here in the US. Pacquiao was attached to Mayweather's Hip as "The Guy That Can Potentially Beat Mayweather" and Arum being the genius promoter that he is ran with that Marketing Strategy all the way to the bank and made a TON of $$$ off of Pacquiao by simply mentioning him in the same sentence as Mayweather

I get the feeling that Lampley is in Peter Nelson's Ear which is why HBO has fallen, it feels like the fighters fighting on HBO are guys Lampley prefers and things are Failing Miserably. They tried to match PBC by signing fighters exclusively especially after Stevenson jumped to PBC and none of those signed have truly paid off besides GGG and Canelo

Fire Peter Nelson and completely rebuild everything about HBO Boxing and try to push a more Fair And Balance Narrative! Hire a BOXING GUY not some damn Exec that don't know sh_t about boxing
