never said that lewis wasn't a great fighter. but he wasn't a concussive puncher., it took him about 300 flush right hands to stop a decrepit tyson, and that punch against rahman was only as good as the punch rahman landed on him in the first fight. ****, he was 6'5 250 solid, if he couldn't punch at all he would have been a *****. im not dis*****g his accomplishments, im saying he wasn't a devastating puncher., ruddock was ruined in two fights by tyson. so that kayo is ****. and his best opposition were guys who were way past their primes regardless of the age similarities. lewis stayed amatuer as long as he did for one reason, that was to avoid tyson. he could punch, but by no means is he a top ten puncher in heavyweight history. no way.
Lennox Lewis's power is very OVERRATED

His style meant he was more of a technical boxer who would use the jab to wear his opponent down rather than go for the knockout like Tyson did. That said, he did hit VERY hard and had one punch KO power. However he was very economical with his punches and outboxed his opponents and slugged only when neccesary (usually coming off best) rather than blasting them out.Comment

There is no real way to reply to that statement other than defending his overall punching power (unless you agree with it of course)
I know lots of boxers of similar size who cannot hit half as hard as Lewis, punch power is part natural talent, part technique and speed and part overall weight and stature.
Lewis didn't just knock out bums he knocked out some of the best around at that time, he could really hit, the Rahman KO is a great example, OK Rahman doesn't have the best chin but can you seriously say that any heavyweight would have taken that shot?, even the likes of Holyfield would have dropped with that shot because it was a perfectly timed shot using the correct technique whilst utilizing his strength and size.
He did this against many opponents therefore his power was not overrated, he was a hard hitting heavyweight who preferred to box behind a jab and set up a stoppage thus giving him more options against durable fighters (ala Holyfield), this does not mean he couldn't punch, it just meant he was productive with his shots hence he was the best Heavyweight around for many years!Comment
