Close and entertaining fight, but Porter clearly won. And there is no shame in losing to Shawn Porter. I have been watching boxing since the 80’s and this is hands down the most competitive generation of welterweights in the past 35 years. Although the expectations are high for Spence, there is still no guarantee who will be on top when the smoke clears. Porter is a tough and rugged dog at 147, and it will take a special fighter that has more dog in him to beat Porter. Spence has the size and ability, but what happens when he goes into the trenches??? We don’t know yet. And that goes for Crawford as well. Can Spence and Crawford perform at a high level if they get cut, rocked or get dropped??? Do they have a plan B or C if plan A isn’t effective against the elite??? Many will debate that but we truly don’t know. But we do know when it comes to Porter and Thurman. Garcia is a hell of a fighter but simply isn’t elite at 147. I truly wish he could fight Crawford next so we can get an idea just how good Bud is. I think both him and Spence are special, but that hasn’t been proven against an elite welterweight. And yes, Spence did beat Brook who beat Porter, but was Brook still the same after GGG? Anyway, the next 3 years at 147 will be epic and historic. Can’t wait!!!

Porter has developed well as a pressure fighter. he attack the body from good angles, sliding off line so he is not countered, and shows excellent head movement sliding in. Also really used feint well in this fight and drew Garcia in fighting off the back leg on occasion.

Danny comes up good with the occasional punch, but this was Porter's fight.And for people who bring up clean punching, take a look at Porter's body work... his punches are accurate, just above the belt often enough and effective.
