They only owe ESPN 18 proper TV cards, most of which are not expensive cards. They lose money when Bud fights, but they do it because if he leaves for PBC, they're totally boxed out. So they have to overpay. Just like they did with Tim Bradley.
You are referring to the 18 regular ESPN cards, but are not including the ESPN+ cards that they are to put on. I know the international cards aren't costing them too much, but they are to put on 12 prime time ESPN+ cards. They aren't doing all that with only $32 million of a budget.

Other than Crawford and loma who on top rank stable would be getting paid more than a million dollars a fight. Who is making half a million a fight. What about a quarter million. etc I think thirty million would be a really good amount if you look at whos fighting.

For 30 cards (18 ESPN, 12 ESPN+), that is just unrealistic, considering guys like Crawford/Lomachenko are likely getting 2+. I mean Crawford got 3 million vs Horn and who knows, maybe is getting similar this fight. Then it will still likely cost them around 2-3 million to obtain rights to the 24 international cards.

They are spending 1.6 million just on Saucedo/Hooker. Do you not think Jose Ramirez is getting a good amount? Zurdo? Eddie Hearn seems to believe Top Rank has a lot more than $30 million himself. Plus you got the library they are providing to ESPN and ESPN+, and that is something they were really interested in.

32 is higher than the hbo budget has been in many years. most of these espn and espn+ cards have smaller budgets than boxing after dark.

ESPN+ cards are lower budget and most of their competition will come from DAZN. Also like I said theres a rumor out their that Top rank is still using money from an investor.

Some certainly, but the amount of cards definitely add up. HBO boxing after dark wasn't putting on these many cards. Again, JMO, but you aren't putting an aggressive purse bid for freaking Saucedo/Hooker for 1.6 million with a limited budget. If they are putting up that much for this fight, how much do you think they put up for Ramirez/Saucedo if he is to beat Hooker?

Not all ESPN+ cards are low budgets. Arum put Crawford on ESPN+ last time and is rumored to put Lomachenko on ESPN+ this time around.

You have a point but theres a reason why we didn't get a figure or specifics in the top rank deal. Even kevin iole hinted at the fact that they had to give up their entire vertical. And in other article he was hinting it was a 360 deal but like I said earlier no one seems to know the specifics.

But a "comprehensive" deal means both parties covered their rear end

Most TR fighters are making peanuts. TR loses money on ever Crawford and Loma fight. They overpay Crawford and Loma to keep them away from PBC and to keep TR relevant. 32 million is plenty to cover what TR is pumping out right now and the budget will grow in the coming years and really balloon in the final years if they can make it so far.

The reason the ESPN & DAZN deals are so lenghy is because only the first 2-3 years are guaranteed. The FOX & SHO deals are 3-4 years, but every year is guaranteed.

so what did kevin iole mean when he said top rank has to give away their entire vertical? originally when the deal was announced people were saying espn were getting a 360?
