Originally posted by WBC WBA IBF View PostYou see how HBO promoters have no leverage and will be screwed when HBO pulls out of boxing? And Arum was smart enough to see it coming and create leverage while he still could to jump ship to ESPN?
What PBC was about was creating leverage so that Showtime wouldn't be Haymon's only option. There's no way Haymon would have landed this Showtime deal if Showtime was bidding against themselves. Creating leverage through FOX leads to PBC getting a better deal from Showtime AND from FOX.
But how did boxing go from the major free networks having ZERO interest in boxing to FOX now being willing to spend big money on PBC?
Because Haymon spent the money to buy time on every network to prove to the networks that there were millions of people willing to watch boxing if you stopped putting the big fights on PPV.
Nobody at Haymon Boxing thought they could convince EVERY major network to give them a big money deal. They just needed to convince ONE. And they did. FOX. So now, instead of the smaller SHO budget Haymon was dealing with in 2014, he has a much larger budget, all to himself, PLUS a big FOX budget too.
So he was right all along and all the naysayers were wrong. A lot of crow should be eaten right about now. Big paid deals on FOX, FS1 and Showtime. PBC is the clear market leader in US boxing now. And HBO boxing is near death.
Sounds like you got all the details already. Are you gonna make me wait it out or are you gonna spill the beans?

Some of the biggest names like Rafael and Mannix are so clueless it's hilarious. Iole is the only major outlet guy I really respect, and even he is naive at times.
Boxing writers do a horrible job of explaining to fans why fights do and don't happen. They've spent decades "ignoring" the sanctioning bodies, instead of explaining how they operate. Almost every fight that takes place exists for the purpose of getting the A-side up the rankings towards a title, or if he has a title, maintaining control of that title at all costs.
I'll listen to Mannix's podcast sometimes and he'll pontificate about fights that should or shouldn't happen and it's so obvious he doesn't understand the first thing about boxing politics, how Haymon moves his pieces, how Arum movies his pieces, the fact that DLH only has one piece so he has no moves, Duva has no pieces now so she has no moves, etc.

I do wonder if the hold up in the FOX announcement was getting this extension done first. Haymon probably had to work out with both networks the type of fights they will be getting. Dan said FOX wanted full exclusivity but FOX wasn't paying as much as SHO. That makes no sense at all. Why the hell would they want all of PBC with less than a SHO budget? I mean they aren't that ****** as they know it would have quickly been shot down. But I am sure If and when the FOX deal gets done, Haymon will give them better fights than they have been getting the last few years.
Good stuff, and I hope SHO gets some digital deal locked up soon to only give us more cards. Or at least be able to air the UC fights.
