Comments Thread For: Jacobs: Golovkin Isn't Afraid of Derevyanchenko; Just Business

NEW YORK Daniel Jacobs could've criticized Gennady Golovkin and commended himself all at the same time. Jacobs just doesn't think Golovkin is afraid of fighting Sergiy Derevyanchenko. The former WBA world middleweight champion believes it simply made financial sense for Golovkin to put off making a mandatory defense of his IBF middleweight title against Derevyanchenko because he'll make much more money for his rematch with Canelo Alvarez.

    April 18, 2016:

“Fighting Amir Khan, then maybe [Manny] Pacquiao...hey, listen, Canelo, I have double the championship belts,” Golovkin said to the Los Angeles Times. “Make the fight with me. It’s a good fight for us. Not an easy fight. Everyone understands that. But then next...you can bring on Manny or Floyd [Mayweather]. For me, it’s about who’s the best? Who’s No. 1 in the division? That’s what’s No. 1 to me. Second is money.”

“Yes, I understand that [a loss would hurt his brand],” Golovkin told The Times. “I understand this decision is maybe 20 percent Canelo’s and 80 percent [his promoter], Golden Boy. It’s business, but it’s not respectful of boxing. Everyone says Canelo is a great champion, the idol of Mexico. The idol for what? For boxing? No. Or as a businessman? Right now, he looks like a businessman.”

Who looks like a "businessman" now? First he chooses Vanes over Dervy, then he drops a belt to rematch a guy without a belt! Jacobs is right, GGG is not afraid of Dervy, it's all about business!

I notice these guys don't mention Charlo in the middleweights. Is he not a big enough name or is he that great that the champions dont want to fight him ....

The IBF has started su****iously stripping unified champions of their belt. The Crawford strip was just criminal and an affront to the man who had just picked up 5 belts, and little more than a week later the IBF took its belt off the JWW undisputed champ after beating Julius Indongo.

"And, three, he (GGG) deserves credit for overcoming Jacobs even if it wasn’t his best performance. The talented New Yorker reportedly entered the ring at around 180 pounds, which technically made him a cruiserweight."

By Michael Rosenthal - The beauty of Gennady Golovkin’s accomplishments thus far is in the eye of the beholder. I think we can all agree that Triple-G has been

I can't wait to see Jacobs' 2nd day weigh-in, and how that might affect him vs. Derevyanchenko!

... by "those guys" you mean Jacobs?... well, at 160, he beat Truax, Quillin, and (the undefeated) Arias and Sulecki... While Charlo beat Heiland and Centano?...

He’s just not a priority right now for anyone. Ggg, Canelo, BJS, and Danny are all at a really high level and Charlo isnt favored to beat a single one. He’s largely unproven in comparison and a win against him doesn’t really do anything for anyone. Danny is probably the likely one to fight Charlo just due to how things played out with him losing to GGG.

Bjs is probably first before Danny fights Charlo since GGG-Canelo is probably going to be 3 fights, especially if it’s close.

Bjs and Danny want GGG or Canelo OR each other in lieu of that.

Charlo, while a good fighter is just seen as one of a few good fighters under the top 4.

Top 4 is the peak of the mountain right now and everyone else is kind of just “there”. Charlo has a better name than most the lesser ones but he should really be trying to make meaningful fights to separate himself from the crowd.

I think Jacobs is the only one who’s shown interest tbh. Everyone else just cant seem to be bothered it seems. They’re all better until proven otherwise.

Oh damn, now even Danny Jacobs makes all the GGG haters look like total clowns. Common sense, i know the desperate 70 IQ anti GGG bots dont have it.
