TBRB and CBZ both consider the lineal title vacant.

They are both far more credible than the Ring at this point.

yes of course theyre more credible. but the majority of the media still considers him the lineal champion. ring referring to him as lineal is very telling because he was stripped of the ring title, so for ring to still call him the lineal champion shows how accepted the claim is among media members.

tbrb is stuck now, but cbz can always change their minds. with the vacancy never filled, it's hard to justify not tracking the man who beat the man when when he's back before another man emerged.

As long as the Wilder/Fury winner vs Joshua fight eventually takes place before one of them loses to someone else, this debate will eventually resolve itself.

But by any reasonable measure, as of this moment, Joshua vs Wilder should be the lineal fight.

Fury retired two or three times, got suspended for cheating, was inactive for two years and seven months, then came back to fight a guy that would be considered a bum at cruiserweight, let alone heavyweight.

If Fury's the lineal champion, then by the same logic Crawford should be lineal welterweight champion. But nobody says he is, because he's not. Because Pacquiao retired, even though he came back to fight Horn in a much shorter timespan than Fury returned to fight Seferi.

I do as well. They are the consensus #1 and #2. Nobody is dis*****g that. But Fury beat the man who beat the man and hasn't lost since. During his "retirement," #1 refused to fight #2. So you can't just pretend Fury didn't beat Klitschko. He's back now and that lineage is what it is. Whoever beats Fury wins the Klitschko lineage. Had AJ fought Wilder before Fury came back, far fewer would care about Fury's lineal claim, but with AJ not fighting Wilder, Fury's claim becomes much stronger.

Breaking the lineage should be a last resort. The lineal champion is back and very few are going to get behind the idea of breaking the lineage unnecessarily. #1 vs #2 is only supposed to crown lineal because beating the man is impossible. But Fury is active and apparently about to sign to fight a major challenge, so beating the man is possible, negating any need to restart the lineage.

The suspension is irrelevant as it was a backdate ban for a fight that took place before he won the title. Has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

Plenty of lineal champions have fought bums, so again, has nothing to do with anything. You're bringing up things that have nothing to do with lineal to try to confuse the issue.

There have been longer stretches of inactivity than that, so again, meaningless.

The only legitimate argument is the retirement one, but that argument suffers from the fact that a new champion was never being crowned. Not to mention the fact few believed he was officially retiring and that it was just the rantings of a mentally ill man.

buster douglas was considered a bum and made 1 million against mike tyson.

in his first defense, he made over 24 million.

Mike Tyson wasn't coming back from 2 and a half years of drink and drug abuse while being obese as hell. So yeah, it's a big difference. And Douglas was actually a good fighter. It was just his mental game that was lacking. He had solid skills and was capable of doing good things just like that night against Tyson. Pianeta isn't good, he's a bum. He doesn't have any upside, no skills, beat no one good like Douglas had done before the Tyson fight... He's just ****. As **** as you trying to make out that Pianeta would make millions against Joshua if he beat a shot looking Fury. Not even close. Just stop it will you.

You could try to argue that he retired. But the consensus is that he didnt and that he's still lineal champion. Even ring magazine refers to him as lineal champion.

The ring mag title represents the lineal title. Fury doesn't have it any more so he's not lineal. That title is actually vacant.

There's a thread on here where most say it's vacant. And it's true, Fury isn't the lineal any more.

My point is that they know how lucrative a Fury fight is, they wanted the fight, but now that Wilder is close to making the deal, suddenly Fury "isn't ready." It's similar to Mayweather vs. McGregor. Oscar talked *****, and Arum talked *****, but at the same time, they were talking about "if Floyd is scared, Canelo will do it," "Pacquiao will fight him, etc." It's a farce only when it's not their guy fighting, but if it's their guy, it's a legitimate fight!

Fury isn't suddenly not ready because he's fighting Wilder. He's not ready because he's coming off a layoff of 2 and a half years of abusing himself with drink and drugs and eating himself to obesity. He's not ready for any top fighter, not just Wilder. Look at his last fight? He looked like **** for a reason. We both know these reasons. Trying to make out the Wilder fight is a good thing won't wash with me. It's a **** idea.

Wrong. Lineal champion can't be stripped for not facing mandatories. Ring champion can be stripped for not facing mandatories. Lineal vacancy can only be filled by #1 vs. #2. Ring vacancy can be filled by #2 vs. #5. They are two completely different things.

Fury doesn't have it any more so he's not lineal.

Ring Magazine says you're wrong. Ring Magazine admits Ring title and lineal title are two completely different things, so I'm not sure why you're arguing otherwise. Ring Magazine still clearly refers to Fury as lineal champion.
