just based on taylors fight with chavez i think stamina wise goes to taylor, you can't fight like that and not have great stamina, and technically they'd be the same, defense mayweather wins this, taylor didn't mind taking a shot, chin, i'd favor taylor he took some murderous shots early in the bout with chavez and still stood his ground, harder puncher taylor not by much, i'll admit their were taylor stopped chavez right in his tracks with his combos.
i just think to this fight would be hell of close and i'd favor taylor, the dod fights that i've seen mayweather in mayweather has not proven to be willing to exchage with his oppoent for long. so i think he'd also have trouble with another fighter that would come straight to him throwing many punchs and walking throw his punchs, yet taylor can match or exceed mayweather speed, so mayweather would fight to be on his A game to beat taylor in a very close fight
Fair enough, and I do respect your opinion.
But what I honestly think this would boyle down to is defense, and because Mayweather has a far surperior defense, I think he would win a UD with landing the more effective punches.
I've been thinking about this since yesterday...or whenever the original question was asked as to who would win between these two in the ring; and I've come to the coclusion that a prime Taylor beats a prime Mayweather...and here's why.
The Taylor that walked into the ring with Chavez was a ****y kid with the fasted hands I've ever seen and he used them. He didn't have much power; but he would throw 10 punch combinations on some occasions and just overwhelm his opponents with sheer volume. He was also a really good boxer in his own right.
While Mayweather's defense is supperb and superior by far to Taylor. Floyd doesn't hit hard enough to deter a pre-Chavez Taylor, IMO.
The two would be shadowing each other early on, with Meldrick picking up the tempo and taking role of aggressor as the fight wore on. In the end, Taylor would win a decision due to the sheer volume of his punches...whether they connected or not....judges love activity and appearances; but I do feel the decision would be fair. Mayweather just doesn't have to style or power or speed to beat a prime MT.
