AJ would definitely be better off fighting Wilder, but Wilder didn't want it.
Povetkin failed one PED test while training for Wilder, not two. His other test failure was for an eliminator vs Stiverne.
He was actually cleared by the WBC after an investigation into the Wilder fight failure, due to "insufficient evidence" of his guilt.
Luis Ortiz also failed a PED test while training for Wilder - his second test failure - and he was also cleared by the WBC after an inquiry, for the same reason they cleared Povetkin.
Wilder then said that, to prove a point, he would give Ortiz another chance, and rescheduled their fight.
He didn't do that with Povetkin. And everybody knows why that was, though some would rather have their teeth pulled without anesthetic than admit it.
