Because Wilder could have been unknowingly signing to be AJ's opponent AFTER the Povetkin fight. Wilder wanted assurance the fight would be next. Not for some random date later on.

They also agreed to sign and have the contract in Hearns hands by Friday. Meanwhile, Hearn forgot how to answer emails clarifying the contract and then once they make it clear the contract is coming, the 24 hour Povetkin deal comes up.
