Why isn’t it a 50/50 split??? Pulev ain’t champ.

Proceeds of the purse bid for elimination bouts or box offs will be distributed as
follows:
a. Boxer ranked #1 v. Boxer ranked #2
50% to each contestant
b. Boxer ranked #1 or #2 v. any other boxer
75% to boxer #1 or #2 and 25% to other contestant
c. Boxers ranked #3 or below v. boxer ranked #3 or below
60% to higher ranked boxer and 40% to lower ranked boxer


IBF rules are set up this way so that a fighter who hasn't won an eliminator isn't given 50/50 against a fighter who has won an eliminator. Winning an eliminator is the only way to achieve the #1 or #2 ranking in the IBF.

If a fighter who hadn't won an eliminator was given 50/50 with a fighter who had won an eliminator, it would be that much more difficult for the IBF to get fighters to agree to fight for the #1 or #2 ranking.
