I thought you ment back then fighters actually threw down even with the best of the best instead of fighting easy opponets.

i do agree with the bit about ouma, though. but, winky has stated that he wants money. do you know what happened with winky - ouma right around the time soliman/winky were negotiating?
if thats the case then winky had no busniess fighting soliman. but i think it was after the mosley fight that winky ducked ouma. ouma was the mandatory for 1 year now and still winky hadn't faced him yet and still hasn't and probably never will.

I think they stop alot of fights the past 5 years or so early sometimes and thats all I got to say about this subject.......Anyone who steps in the ring has some kind of heart and guts..........whether they win, lose or get bitched completely.

i agree with the topic, but no the topic creators post.

A lot of people who get KOed now, wouldnt have even been KDed in the 40's.

People like Gatti, Ward, Augustus, and corrales, these guys are throwbacks to the fighters who used to go 15 rounds and not get KDed, when most nowadays would be KOed!!

I mean, back then, u couldnt be a superstar unless u had heart.

Nowadays, superstars like mayweather and Tayor havent proven that they have heart yet. Undoubtedly these guys probably have great heart, but back then if u hadnt proved it, u were ****.

But nowadays, with so much talent and ability being thrown out there, it allows fighters to STILL be exciting with there styles and defences and still be considered superstars.

To be honest, id rather have it the way it is now

A lot of the guys today have heart:

            Corrales
            Gatti
            Vargas

three examples that are easily among the top 10 biggest hearts of all time in this sport, all three are still competing today

There is some kind of freak "over-protective" referee's era going on and i dont like it. Guys like Tony Weeks (castillo carrales 1) and richard steele(Jcc meldrick taylor) stop fights earlier then they should.

But who ever was doing gatti-ward 1 sure knows what hes doing. he let the fight go on when gatti was out on his feet in that 9th round. He did the right thing on letting it go and gatti ended up making a pretty good effort in that 10th round to cap off the fight!!

We need more refs like that!! (and if that ref was tony weeks or richard steele, im look like an idiot right about now...)

I also think Hatton, Taylor, Mayweather, and others have heart that they haven't had to show yet. Shoot, maybe they never will.

yea i just said that in my last post. lol

But IMO, corrales and Gatti have the best hearts in the sport right now. Vargas maybe had better in his prime and stuff, but not anymore
