Haymon's model created the most successful boxer of all time. And at the time nobody thought Floyd would be a PPV star.

It's not about the short term money I think he can continue making decent paychecks but having a promoter increases your visibility and gives you a greater chance of crossing over to casual fans and graduating to PPV fights. That's when you get the real money. Bradley was a good fighter making good pay signs with Top Rank and lands numerous PPV fights which paid him far more then Spence or any of the PBC guys.

Canelo was already a top prospect and draw in Mexico he signs with Golden Boy and immediately his visibility rises and he is making hand over fist as a PPV star. Ryan Garcia was a stud amatuer turned pro as a free agent and nobody was following him 6 fights into his career. He signs with Golden Boy and immediately in 1 year time has a huge social media following and is headlining big venues and is on the fast track to crossing over and being a PPV fighter.

Errol Spence right now has only 308K followers on instagram. In comparison Ryan Garcia who is only 19 already has 968K followers on instagram. And nobody was following him on social media before he signed with Golden Boy. Canelo is younger then Spence and already a huge PPV star. Floyd before going on his own was already built and headlining PPV's because of Top Rank. So there is still a huge benefit of having a promoter at least until you are already a star fighter. For example if he had a promoter he would of long been headlining and fighting in his home town. Instead not having a promoter only 1 of his pro fights before sat were in dallas and only 4 times period in the state of Texas. No consistent promoter meant his fights were literally scattered randomly with no plan to 1 off promoters in different cities. Hard to build a buzz and fanbase that way.

Social media following isn't the end all. Since his fight this past weekend Spence has been on a media tour. Step away from social media and you'd hear him on the radio and seen him on TV.

Ryan Garcia is a PROSPECT and 19 years old years away from world champ status. I would hope a 28 year old world champ has better ratings. They are building Garcia to PPV status and giving away tickets in your home town and doing 600K viewers on Showtime is nice. But does that get him any closer to being a viable PPV level fighter? He's on a media tour and yet NOBODY cares and his social media accounts haven't gotten any noticeable bump. There are levels to this and so far Spence has been stuck at the same level that other guys with PBC are at. 1-2M Payday decent but not great ratings on Showtime and nowhere near PPV level where the real money is at. Spence is already 28 and didn't start headlining venues the size that Garcia just headlined until what 1-2 years ago? Garcia is doing that at 19 years old and other older fighters and prospects ain't doing that. He's doing it because he already has a huge following. A following that DIDN'T exist until he signed with Golden Boy 18 months ago. So yeah things like social media followers do matter.

Just 3 fights ago Spence was headlining against Bundu in a tiny coney island theater in front of like 2000 fans. LMAO I know that because I have a buddy who was at that fight because they GAVE away tickets for free. 19 year old prospect Garcia sold more tickets and filled a larger crowd then Spence did. Garcia is light years ahead of where Spence was as a prospect hell he's drawing more then Spence did as a title contender. If he's pulling crowds like this and has that many people following him at 19 what do you think he will be drawing once he grabs a world title? Spence is 28 and just started drawing decent crowds.

pbc fighters for the most part are making more money on a fight by fight basis than top rank and golden boy fighters and they're not losing a % of their purse to promotors. And in this era, what are promotors really doing? Fighters can market themselves via social media and other platforms that guys like arum and Oscar are basically regulated to setting up the events. Plus, other than Thurman, everyone Spence wants to fight is with pbc.

Hell all these fighters really need to do is get a local party promoter to set the event up and hand out Flyers for a flat 10K, and a publicist to set up TV spots and they'll be fine. The televised platform does most of the leg work for promotions anyway.

Hell these old ass promoters don't even know how to use Social Media without making themselves look like ass-clowns(Hearn) or degenerate perverts (do I really have to say who).
