And Peterson has never been an easy fight for anyone outside of Matthyse. Outside of Canelo and Manny, who both have countries behind them, what PPV stars have either Arum or Oscar built up???

And honestly, how can either promoter make Spence any bigger without having other good welterweights under their banner??? Is Terrence Crawford a superstar??? He’s promoted by Arum, right? How did his ppv numbers do??? He’s fighting at welterweight now, but what legit opponents are there??? So what can Top Rank honestly do for him or Spence???

Name a black fighter that Golden Boy has made a ppv star. Better yet, name just one successful black fighter under the Golden Boy banner. Both Arum and Oscar are big right now because their top fighters are supported by their entire country. If Canelo gets knocked out, Golden Boy gets ko’d too. When Manny retires, Top Rank goes down hill as well. Lomo is great but will never be a ppv star. And how long will Crawford stay with Arum now that he’s fighting at 147??? All the other legit welterweights are with PBC and Showtime. 5 years from now, both promotional companies will be irrelevant like Don King.
I never heard anybody say Brook was number one of anything. Well, that's not true --- he is the #1 quitter in the game at this point. All he's done career wise was beat Porter.

Peterson took a little warm-up fight after being out for two years. I think everybody and their mothers agree Peterson was a soft touch that still had a name. Absolutely out of his prime as well as out of his natural weight. Peterson fought Matthysse 5 years ago when he was pro for 9 years. Massive difference from being a pro for 9 years at age 29 vs 14 years pro and 34 years of age.

What stars did Arum build? The names below re a result of 30 seconds of research. Give me a week and my list will eat pages.

    Manny Pacquiao
    Erik Morales
    Marco Antonio Barerra
    Floyd Mayweather Jr
    Roger Mayweather

Any good soup needs time to simmer so the flavors are strong and present. Crawford at this stage of his career is on the fast track with PPV dates right around the corner. He can't do it himself yet because he's still being built, but he's 1-2 fights away from that. Crawford and Spence would be a PPV affair for sure.

If you think Canelo is the only thing keeping GBP profitable, you simply don't understand business or the scope of what GBP is doing. The reason GBP has survived this long in shark infested waters is because they've had brilliant minds building a brand. Look at Croc Nation and SMS Promotions, belly up cuz they're ****** thugs with zero business/branding sense. Even DiBella has folded into Plan B and that cat has been around for ages.

Top Rank and GBP will be here 30 years from now.

      • says it all about ES,
why would you sign for a promotor & fight in some big venues against quality fighters when you can fight...well lets not go their on mandos who have never fought any one in top 20

        • Honestly I think it should be applauded if he wants to steer clear of the snakes in the business, but he may find it difficult to make big fights this way. Worst case scenario he just starts getting avoided and ultimately forgotten about instead of being a big star.

          • Smart move..

Worked for Floyd, and later cotto.. being a free agent and no ties is great for a star fighter

            • He didn’t need one when he unknown, why would he need one now.

                • I dont think Spence realises how big he should/could be.

He is an American Olympian, he is in one of the most glamourous divisions in boxing, he knocks people out with power and finesse, he is aggressive and entertaining in the ring.

This guy should be doing more than 726k on Showtime.

That really has nothing to do with a promoter.

Crawford is considered p4p #1, has had the backing of two networks with bigger subscription bases, has a promoter and is still unknown. Same with Loma.

Boxing is not very popular sport. Outside boxing community, here in Europe, nobody knows Mayweather and de la Hoya. My friends for example, 90% of them have no idea who these people are. They just know Klitschko and Joshua. They know Ali and Mike Tyson.

There is zero chance that ordinary people, who are not boxing fans, care about welterweights.
