You’re correct but don’t leave out Jacobs had some skin in it as an opponent too. If the opponent didn’t play a factor, GGG/Brooks wouldn’t have sold 500,000 or by your estimation, Canelo/Smith wouldn’t have done 300,000. It’s no question Canelo is the biggest star between the two but to state he can fight a lemon tree and sell more PPV’s is a stretch as well. It’s not that GGG deserves 50% by PPV stardom, it had to do with the millions he lost due to Canelo popping. Nobody in their right mind would deny Canelo’s action denied G millions because of Canelo popping.

I doubt Canelo really cares. He was willing to let Cotto be the A side in their fight even though he was the more popular fighter. GGG gets his moral victory but he will lose the fight.

Nice.. it's good that they stuck to it and eventually got the fight but it would have been bad if the fight wasn't off because of 2.5%

Hoping it'd be more interesting than last time..

All of that bullshyt is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that these 2 men stand in the middle of the Fkn Ring and give us the fight that we wanted the First Time.

"...one of the best fights that the 160 pound division has ever produced."!!!

You've seen less than 10 fights in your life?

stop it, canelo is a super diva and he definitely cares about trying to pull his A side rank. He didn't let cotto be anything. Cotto was a more established star than Canelo was when they fought and Canelo didn't give in to ggg in this situation. He knows he makes much less money with anyone else regardless of percentage split. Golden boy got made to look like fools by making Oscar go back on his word. Although making Oscar look like a liar is easy work.

props to Golovkin. he won the negotiations . he isn't worth nowhere near 45% but he squeezed it out of Oscar. nice.

They figured that dealing with Jacobs would be a breeze then he turned down 20% which showed them dealing with DJ will be a headache so they gave GGG his money.

This isn't accurate at all. Anybody who knows anything about boxing knows that Canelo and GGG are not worth the same. Please remind me again what kind of PPV numbers Golovkin was doing without Canelo. Canelo was willing to give up a significant amount of his purse to get the fight made. GGG definitely won the negotiations but he's clearly delusional if he really believes that he brings just as much to the table as Canelo.

he doesn't bring as much to the table but Canelo needs this fight for 2 reasons. 1 is financially he'll make money vs ggg than he will vs anyone and 2. He knows that most had him losing the first fight and to boot his reputation took an even bigger hit with the positive ped test. He needs to beat ggg with active drug testing to salvage his reputation or this dark cloud will stay with him. He had more to lose legacy wise than ggg if the rematch didn't happen. So he didn't concede leverage, he was forced to.

Ggg deserves what he got in the negotiations, whatever people are pricing him at is irrelevant. 45% was awarded him to make this fight, that’s his worth. Is a Rolex or Patek objectively worth their asking price? In terms of finishing and material? No, but demand dictates value
