India is not a sporting nation period, with over a billion citizens, their Olympic medal standing is absolutely pathetic. The only sport they seem to care about is Cricket which is not even a global sport.

Indians can't fight. They're better off sticking with software stuff.

Statistically there probably is someone talented and physically capable, but firstly giving them a pathway into boxing is hard, second finding them would be like a needle in a haystack and if they were talented in any sport then getting a cricket ball out of their hand would be a challenge.

I do agree that it’s an untapped talent pool, especially in lower weight classes, and the MLB have long been doing recruiting missions to convert would be cricketers because they have some fast arms amongst them.

If I had a bottomless pit of cash to invest in grass roots boxing to find the next great HW, I’d start in Africa before India. Some big and tough dudes in Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Nigeria etc

If America produced an Ali so can India.. and pretty much anywhere else. It's just a question of time when it's all said and done. Possibly the earliest martial arts is from India known as Kalaripayattu, which is thought to have later influenced Shaolin Kung Fu. Also Malla-yuddha, a form of wrestling, was popular in India thousands of years ago so it's got one of the longest histories of organized combat known to man. Not a far stretch that an Ali-like figure could emerge one day since in reality, India is one of the most well-versed nations at practising hand to hand combat, from a factual, historical perspective.

I very much doubt that the next Ali will come from India of all places unless the only comparisons is using the same name.
Muhammad Ali is considered to be amongst the best to ever lace up a pair of gloves.
                  An ATG.

depends if the subcontinent actually became massively interested in pro boxing, it certainly has the mass population to yield them... but even then it would take years of development.

No reason why not, other than interest, not like anywhere else produces ATG indian stick fighters, its the same difference.
